Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hello! We are the Burton Brothers. We are actual brothers, Tom and Josh Burton, and we are a sketch comedy duo from Melbourne, Australia. We do a combination of modern sketch comedy with an old-school, vaudevillian twist.

Tell us all about your show!

Our show is called 1925. It’s a sketch comedy show set entirely in the year 1925, a hundred years ago! It features big characters, jazzy interludes, improv and more, all played to the tune of the roaring 20’s. It’s a show we have toured all around Australia to sell out crowds and great reviews.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Reuben Solo, Oliver Coleman, Elf Lyons, Jeromaia Detto, Mel and Sam, Matt Jenner

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

This is our first proper Edinburgh Fringe. We did a short Free Fringe run a few years ago but this is the first time doing one of our shows for the full month! The main advice I have been given is about eating well and keeping fit to avoid melting into a giant puddle of cigarettes and regrets.

If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to performing every day and getting into the chaos that is the Fringe. There are so many incredible shows to see and people to meet, there is a lot to look forward to!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

My daily routine would be wake up at (regrettably) midday, go flyering for a few hours, do my show, rest for a minute, go do gigs / see shows, go out for drinks with fellow performers, go to bed. Rinse and repeat for a month or untill I implode.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

At home! Because I have no money!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Getting to meet all the wonderful performers from around the world and getting to see their work.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

Maintaining energy levels over the month so as not to burn out.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

My Nintendo Switch. I would never travel without it! Sometimes you just need a day in your room playing Dark Souls Remastered to refresh the system, you know?

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Smoke cigarettes! The smoking squashes your appetite and then you never have to eat. Don’t listen to doctors, smoking is actually good for you and it’s cool.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

  1. A good attitude
  2. A good show
  3. Water

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Be funny! Sounds simple enough but if you are actually polite, funny and charming when you flyer people are much more likely to take an interest in your show. Funny that!

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

@burtonbros on Instagram

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Old, Timey, Nonesense
