Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m Alex and I’m an actress from London making my writing debut at this year’s festival. Taking my own show to the festival feels like a bucket list moment I never actually had on a bucket list. The play has taken years to write and seeing it come together with the most amazing team – I feel very lucky.

Tell us all about your show!

Without giving too much away, or making promises I can’t keep…In the Land of Eagles is a play inspired by my relationship with my grandfather. In many ways, I wrote this play for him. It’s the story of a journey, told through the eyes of eighteen year old Her as she travels with Grandpa to his homeland Albania.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Stand-up Comedy. I love to laugh. There’ll be endless new-writing to see. As much as possible to be honest.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I did the fringe about ten years ago. The show was at midnight, I played a rather shouty Queen of Hearts. It was a hectic but awesome experience. Best advice I’ve received is be prepared to work the hardest you’ve ever worked and place no expectation on outcome. Do it for your audience and the experience. Everything else is sort of out of your control. Oh, and rally your mates to have lots of support in place!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Coffee. More coffee. See a show. Flyer. I’d like to say a vocal warm-up at 2:30 (but we’ll see). Minute my show is done, I’ll be thinking about food and what show to see next.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Supermarket meal deals and food stalls around the city. Also, anywhere that sells pizza.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Feeling like your part of a big celebration. Getting to see theatre and connecting with other artists in this kind of environment is pretty special.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

Not the performing. I’d say trying to find your audience day by day. And it’s hard to knock that nagging part of you that just hopes people enjoy your show.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

No. Not sure what that says about me.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Eat/drink in when you can and be selective with what you see. Not sure how easy that is to do given how much fun the festival is.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Trainers. Sunglasses. Water bottle.

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Before coming I was told…smile and have one line that encapsulates your entire show.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

For the adventure.
