Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hello. I am Cerys Bradley and I am an alternative comedian (and also, technically, a maths teacher). I made shows about being autistic and non-binary and that usually have big audience participation elements.
I’m really interested in how to make audience participation fun and accessible for neurodivergent audiences and so, for this show, I’ve been experimented with improv and the pick your path story telling format.
Tell us all about your show!
Queer Tales for Autistic Folk is a choose your own story telling show. The show is in a pick your path format and, each show, an audience member joins me on stage and chooses where the story goes.
The audience gets to decide what is possible in the world and who the other characters are and what the point of the story is so, over the hour, we collaboratively tell a story that only exists in that room at that time.
I have props made by the wonderful Adam Larter which are really fun and delightful and it’s all very silly and
fun.
The show was supported by Arts Council England and has had lots of great input from an amazing team of
people including Amy Greaves, Mikey Bligh-Smith, Steffan Alun, Beth Watson, and Edy Hurst.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Oh my goodness the list is too long. Right now, off the top of my head (not looking at the already out of control list on a note on my phone, Leila Navabi, Priya Hall, Su Mi, Lorna Rose Treen, Steffan Alun, Sam Nicoresti, Rosa Garland…
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
This will be my 7 th fringe as a performer and my third solo show. I think my best advice would be see as
much as possible and get excited for other people’s work. The best advice I have been given is probably to
set small goals that are within your control.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Wake up, read, go to the gym or yoga (if I can make myself), eat something small, flyer, perform, HAVE A
LOVELY CHAT WITH THE AUDIENCE, go see shows/perform in other shows/exit flyer, meet people,
DECIDE I AM GOING TO HAVE AN EARLY NIGHT, go see more shows, stay up way later than intended,
sleep.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Mezcal!
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Going to see a show with someone and then talking about that show for, like, 7 straight hours.
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
At the end of it you just have to go back to your regular job and be in the world again, extremely jet lagged,
and that makes it feel like it wasn’t really real.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
My wife. This year she is coming up for the second half of the fringe but I usually find her hair in my packing
before she arrives because she sheds like a cat.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
What a ridiculous question… I guess, because when I’m up at fringe I’m usually having such a lovely time I
don’t feel the urge to buy a bunch of crap online and that technically saves money. This is what I tell myself
as I spend all of my money on shows.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
A yakult in each pocket and a third one hidden somewhere as a surprise treat.
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
If I knew that, I would be a lot more successful.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
They can follow me on instagram (@hashtagcerys) or sign up to my newsletter via cerysbradley.com
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
To be nice.
Thank you again for all your support in reading and engaging with the website.
