Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m Sam Cochrane, Artistic Director of Gigglemug Theatre and writer of A Jaffa Cake Musical.

Tell us all about your show!

Following a hugely successful run last year, A Jaffa Cake Musical is returning to the festival for  its final performances. We were lucky enough to sell out the entire run in 2024 and pick up over  thirty 4 & 5 star reviews! The show itself is based on the real life 1991 tribunal which saw  McVitie’s face off against the Tax Man to prove that a Jaffa Cake is in fact a cake rather than a  biscuit.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I always love seeing John Tothill, as well as our very own Alex Prescot and Katie Pritchard who  are performing in their solo shows!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been  given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

This will be Gigglemug’s fourth year at the Fringe, having previously performed Timpson: The  Musical and RuneSical at the festival, and our second time with A Jaffa Cake Musical! I think  you just have to embrace the Fringe with open arms and take every opportunity you can get.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

It all depends on how well the show’s selling… If not at all, then the day mainly consists of  flyering, if well, then the day consists of feeling confused and guilty for not flyering.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Any of the mac & cheese stalls.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The audiences give you so much, it makes performing everyday a joy.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Avoid the mac & cheese stalls.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

A raincoat, First Defence, and I recently got myself a nebuliser – I have no idea if it actually  helps my voice but I like to pretend that it does.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Wear a giant Jaffa Cake mask, it’s surprisingly effective.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

We’re on all socials @TheGigglemug or head on over to our website gigglemugcomedy.com

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Cake or biscuit…?!
