Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hi! I’m Riana Duce, and I’m an actor from West Yorkshire.

Tell us all about your show!

I’ll be performing in The Uncrackable Case, a brand new comedy courtroom musical about the death of Humpty Dumpty. A co-production between two West Yorkshire institutions, Front Room Productions and the Lawrence Batley Theatre, the show’s been in development for the past couple of years.

The tale unfolds following influencer Humpty’s death, as his friend and budding documentary-maker Jill stands on trial for egg-icide, defended by disgraced lawyer B. B. Wolf and with prosecution lawyer Little Red out for blood. It’s a joyful, nostalgic romp through a world of fairytale characters that highlights society’s obsession with true crime and the spread of fake news, making it a seriously sharp, relevant new musical.

The songs have been stuck in my head for the past year, I’m confident that I’ll develop a nice set of abs from laughing in the rehearsal room, and the show was loved by audiences of all ages right from its first development stage. So, it’s safe to say I’m pretty egg-cited! (Sorry, I promise I’ve had little to no say in the jokes that have made the final script…)

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

We’re performing at Pleasance Two, so I plan on taking full advantage and seeing everything in the vicinity for starters, as well as my brilliant improv-comedy pal Alex Prescot’s show Cosy at Underbelly Bristo Square.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I’ve never performed at the Fringe before and have only visited as an audience member, so I’m thrilled to be ticking off a big bucket list item! I will be surrendering to the madness and the joy and making room in my suitcase for a vocal steamer.

If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?

Being in one of my favourite cities in the world with some of my favourite people for a whole month. I feel ludicrously lucky.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Maybe, just maybe, I’ll break the habit of a lifetime (drinking four coffees by 11am and sacking off all healthy post-show dinner plans for yet another round of chips) and start every day at 6am with a cold plunge and casual 10k run before each performance? Seems likely.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Anywhere with chips.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

If it’s anything like the hectic touring schedules I’ve done in the past, it’ll be missing home – though I’ll be there with many of my very good mates so that’s one less thing to pine for!

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

My notebooks, favourite recipes, and a mountain of novels to read.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

As a company we have grand plans to cook together – we’ll see how long that lasts.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Your own pillow, perfume/room spray that reminds you of home, and ideally an entire lorry filled with those Throat Comfort teas.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

God knows. I’m utterly pathetic when it comes to being assertive so will be learning from my more seasoned colleagues. (If my director Liv is reading this – I am of course kidding, I’m a PRO at flyering, don’t you worry.)

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

Follow @uncrackablemusical on Instagram. We have some fun content planned for the next few months – watch this space!

And finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Joyful doom-scroll antidote
