Hello! Tell us about yourself.

Hello! I’m Kayleigh, born and raised in the Midlands, fuelled by big dreams of becoming an actress. I moved to London to chase those dreams, only for them to be swiftly pulverised into dust. Luckily, from the ashes rose my true calling, writing, comedy, and ruthlessly mining my own life for material.

Tell us all about your show!

My show, I Fed My Dad to a Pelican, is my debut hour, which I’m really excited to have the opportunity to bring to Edinburgh. It’s a storytelling comedy show with some musical bits thrown in, based on the true story of how, on Christmas morning 2010, I unwrapped the ultimate surprise: finding out the man I thought was my dad… actually wasn’t. The show follows my slightly unhinged quest to find the real one. It got a Best Debut nomination at Leicester Comedy Festival, which was a lovely validation that I’m not just shouting my family trauma into a void for no reason.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Michelle Braiser, love her stuff, Jazz Emu, Thanyia Moore, Katie Pritchard. My very funny friend Dave Bibby is trying out his new show up there, which I’m looking forward to seeing, and just generally discovering many other incredible acts that I don’t know about yet.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

This is my first Fringe, eeeeeeek! I’ve wanted to do it for years, but in case you haven’t heard, it’s… not exactly cheap. Some of the best advice I’ve been given is to make a list of what I want to get out of the experience, take it with me, and use it to stay focused, otherwise it’s very easy to get swept up in the madness and the endless game of comparing yourself to everyone else. Also, look after your voice, rest whenever you can, and don’t feel guilty about not seeing every show. You physically can’t. Not unless you’ve cracked time travel, in which case you probably don’t need my advice.

If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?

I’m excited to spend a whole month doing what I actually love. I work full-time in the real world, where nobody claps when you finish a spreadsheet, so being able to pour all my time into comedy, writing, and performing my little show every day feels like a proper dream. I’m fully ready to cherish (and possibly cry about) every second of it.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

As it’s my first one, I don’t have a set routine, but one thing I know I will be doing every day is performing my show. I’m going to prioritise morning walks for the old mental health, and then immediately undo all that good work by drinking too much coffee.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

I have visited the fringe as a guest before and my fave little find to eat was the Mosque Kitchen. It’s great food and super cheap. It’s definitely on my eating card this year.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

It’s my first fringe, but this sounds like a great thing to do. I will probably bring something like one of my mum’s crystals, as they were her go-to for luck, strength, and curing any ailment (never worked, but it’s the thought that counts).

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

I really hope someone tells me the answer to this question.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Again, anyone want to fill me in on this one? I am definitely taking my vocal steamer, earplugs to have a good night’s sleep, and my husband, as he’s tech operating my show.

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Yes performers, what is the secret to this? Seriously, tell me!

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

You can find me on Instagram and Tiktok @kayleigh_m_jones

On Facebook @KayleighJonescomedy and twitter, although I’m not there much as Elon scares me, but my handle is @kayleigh_ajones

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

A Pelican raps
