Celebrating 10 Years of The Phoenix Remix – Behind The Article – Taste Of States

It is our birthday month so to celebrate I thought it would be fun to write a couple of articles to take you behind the scenes of the The Phoenix Remix. In this article I am going to talk about how the idea for the Taste of States article came about.

I have always loved food, I have always been fascinated with snacks and treats from America because there are just so many. I remember the first time I went to a grocery store in the US and was amazed by all the choices and the variations of things that they had. I am not a fan of American chocolate but the selections are endless!

Around 2017, I was interviewing comedian John Egan for a comedy festival in America – I think it was one in Milwaukee and from his interview I discovered that he had a YouTube page where he reviewed different snacks that were coming to the shops. It gave me the idea to write about it.

Initially the article was sort of a collaboration – I would write an article each week based on the item that he was reviewing in his videos. My article would be the back story of the product and how it came about and then the article would have his video at the bottom with the review of the item.

Over time, the videos were becoming limited but my interest for food and snacks was growing so we parted ways and I just made it an article about new and old snacks on the market.

I love writing about unusual products that have been products on the market or food through time as they are so interesting. Ones that come to mind are Koolickles , deep fried butter and the most bizarre Candle salad . It is really fun to discover these items initially and then bring them to the masses.

My favourite thing to write about is food from the State Fairs – I find them absolutely amazing and they are full of the most bizarre foods.

I adore writing this article and It is so fun as there are new items that are on the market everyday and means that there is always so much to write about.
