Ones To Watch 2025 – INTERVIEW – Chelsea Birkby

All this month we are celebrating acts that you need to look out for in 2025. Today it is the time to speak to comedian Chelsea Birkby who is heading out on tour this year!

Hello tell us all about yourself?

I’m Chelsea Birkby. I’m a comedian. I think I like to do stand-up about abstract nouns (shame, despair, desire) but when I put my stand up into a cloud, the biggest words are: blobby, bin and egg.

How was 2024 for you?

Highs: realising my second hour of stand-up: This is Life, Cheeky Cheeky, nearly unlocking my first ever push up (on knees).

Lows: Really developed my fear of cows (what are they up to, you know?), had three pints and said to someone I was trying to befriend “So, tell me more about Huel”

What was the top 3 highlights for you?

1.      Someone told me when they felt low, they thought about something I say in my show and felt buoyed.

2.     My Mum feeling good on her first day out without her wig.

3.     Found the perfect mini skirt for £3 in my fave most lucky charity shop.

What was the key lesson you learnt from last year?

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

What are your plans for 2025?

I’m going on my first UK tour! Come and see an indie comedian taking her show on the road (train tracks). AND I’m releasing my debut show ‘No More Mr Nice Chelsea’ for free on YouTube! Comment ‘bin and egg’ and I’ll know this is how you found the special.

What other shows are you looking forward to watching this year?

I’m doing tour support for Ed Patrick (Catch your Breath) and Celya AB (Of All people). They are 5 star shows and I LOVE seeing how they shine in new places with new people, the alchemy!

What styles do you hope to see more of in comedy this year?

Insult comedy.

What comedian is your ones to watch in 2025 and why?

I think Helen Bauer’s doing a new show! No one does it like she does it, I always look forward to her next projects. And Amelia Hamilton’s doing her debut show, she’s one to watch (and listen to). Oh, they’re both Fleet babes. COINCIDENCE?

Do you have any new year’s resolutions? If so, what are they?

Last year, instead of a resolution, I chose a word of the year. I wanted something to help me move on when I was stuck so I chose ‘motion’. I loved it, it led me places I didn’t expect (Swindon). For 2025, I want to let go of my instinct to hide away, think about things by myself, then come back to people “better”, so I’m thinking something like ‘connection’ or ‘collaboration’.

Are you on social media? If so, how can people find out more about your troupe?

@chelseabirkby Instagram is the fun one

Three words why people should come and see you this year

Make you hahaha
