Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a classic romance novel.
Emma (1815)
Jane Austen
Synopsis
Beautiful, clever, rich – and single – Emma Woodhouse is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage.
Nothing, however, delights her more than interfering in the romantic lives of others. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protégée Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected.
With its imperfect but charming heroine and its witty and subtle exploration of relationships, Emma is often seen as Jane Austen’s most flawless work.
– from Waterstones
Positive Points
If you are looking for an in depth detailed story then this is the book for you. It is full of lots of characters that paint an in depth look at the world of Emma. If you are looking for a traditional romance novel then this is the book for you.
Negative Points
The book has three parts and lots of chapters which means that you have to be committed to read the whole thing as it can feel like it goes around in circles to get to the finale.
Overall Review
This book will appeal to those who are interested in reading the classics as this is written by one of the most iconic authors. It is a book that will appeal to some but not to everyone. Overall, I enjoyed it but I wish that it was a but shorter as it did drag at times.
