It has come to the point of the year when we celebrate all things music and take a look back on the year and what songs that it has provided us with. Today we have a look at the first ten of some of the best songs released this year.
1) Versions Of You – Alkaline Trio
At the beginning of the year, Alkaline Trio released brand new music and Versions Of You was one of the first singles to be released off of the brand new album Blood, Hair and Eyeballs that was also released in early 2024. Also, it was a year where the band went on a world tour as well to play these new songs and the first one since Matt returned full tine from Blink-182.
2) Yes, and? – Ariana Grande
The year of 2024 really has been the year of Ariana Grande – ending the year making a huge impact on her lead role in Wicked and starting the year with a song that was incredibly catchy. This song was released in the first couple of weeks of 2024 and was the lead single from the album Eternal Sunshine. It created a load of memes, social media trends and much more. Also it is really hard to forget the chorus.
3) Call – Kasabian
A band that released an album this year with a lot of catchy songs was Kasabian. Apparently songs like Call were designed so that they would work really well at festivals and if you watch back the big shows they did this year you can tell that they really get the crowd moving and get everyone dancing.
4) Beautiful Things – Benson Boone
It is a song that no matter if you use social media, listen to radio or even watch television, it has been everywhere this year and you cannot escape it. The single was released in January and it has ended up winning lots of awards including Best Alternative Video at the MTV Music Awards, Best International Song at the NRJ Music Award and has even been nominated for the Billboard Music Awards.
5) Texas Hold ‘Em – Beyonce
Another song that went viral on social and caused a whole new dance trend was Beyonce’s debut into the world of country western music. The song was praised by the Country Artists and country Radio managers for elevating the accessibility of the genres to a wider audience. It has been nominated for three Grammys for the 2025 awards and won a BET award and an ASCAP Country Music Award as well.
6) Guess – Charli xcx feat Billie Eilish
One of the hottest collaborations of the year was when Charli xcx teamed up with Billie Eilish in August 2024. It was not the original version, it was a remix but this version went into the top 5 in many countries including Australia, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, The UK and the US to name a few.
7) Just Another Rainbow -Liam Gallagher & John Squire
It may be the year that everyone will remember for the fact that Oasis announced a reunion but it also the year that Liam Gallagher released a great album with this single being one of the tracks from it. This song has a pure indie vibe to it and it is a song that is really catchy to listen to.
8) You Love Who You Love – Zara Larsson
This song was released in the beginning of the year and was from Zara Larsson’s fourth album called Venus that was also released this year as well. This song focusses on being in a relationship with someone that is bad for you. The single did really well in the charts in Sweden and went to number 8.
9) Dizzy, Olly Alexander
At the beginning of this year there was a huge buzz around the Eurovision and the song that was going to represent the United Kingdom. Ok, so it was not our best year in the actual competition but this song by Olly Alexander was a sort of earworm and gets trapped in your head once you hear it.
10) Joyride – Kesha
This year saw the return of Kesha with some really catchy songs. On the 4th July she released the song Joyride which was from her up and coming album. It was her first song that she had released since departing RCA and Kemosable Records.
