Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. It is the end of the year and because there was so many interesting foods this year I thought it would be fun to re-look at ten of the best items that we spoke about.

1) Beyond Famous Star Burger With Cheese

Carl’s Jr Restaurant was founded in California 82 years ago in 1941 and was originally called Carl’s Drive In Barbecue. They have over 1,000 locations in the US including Arizona, California and Texas. One of the items on the menus is the Beyond Famous Star Burger With Cheese.

Whilst they are known for meat today we are looking at a plant based burger. The plant burger patty is charbroiled with American Cheese, lettuce, tomato, sliced onions, dill pickles and topped with special sauce and mayonnaise. The burger is 770 calories and the patty is created from peas, mung beans and rice protein and beetroots.

The burgers have been around since 2019 and have received positive reviews. The actual patty you have in any burger style for an extra $2.

2) Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese

Devour foods is part of the Kraft Heinz food company. The company Devour prides itself on producing frozen food products such as pastas, fries, burrito bowls, sandwiches and much more. Today we are going to look at one of their pasta varieties – Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese.

So let’s have a look at what this frozen meal actually is. The meal contains breaded chicken that is placed in a creamy and spicy buffalo flavoured cheese sauce with macaroni and then topped off with blue cheese as well. Each serving is 240 grams and the package contains 670 calories and has 32 grams of fat. The Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese can be cooked easily by putting it in the microwave. The meal can be purchased from grocery stores for $3.59.

There are various reviews of this meal online with many praising it by stating that it is cheesy and has a great spice flavour. People find it a good price for the money and that the meal is satisfying that has a taste that just ‘melts in your mouth.’

3) Unicorn Cookies and Pudding Cups

In 2019, it was announced that the company called Duncan Hines was releasing a dessert called Unicorn Cookies and pudding cups.

Duncan Hines was an American author and food critic that was alive between 1880 – 1959. In 1952, he launched a bakery company that is still around today. Nowadays the company is owned by Conagra Brands. These days they create many products including EPIC Bakery Kits, muffin mixes, pie filling and Keto friendly products.

So lets get back to today’s product – it was at a time when a lot of companies were releasing Unicorn products. The pudding cup from my understanding is cake mix with sprinkles. It is really hard to find any information about it online especially the specific flavour of the cake as there is hardly any details online. It is also very difficult to find reviews as well.

Snack Pack Starburst All Pink Juicy Gel

At the beginning of last year, it was announced that the Conagra Brand was released a lot of new flavours of the Snack Packs. One of the new additions was none other then the Starburst All Pink Juicy Gel.

Snack Pack Starburst All Pink Strawberry is meant to taste like the ‘candy’ and apparently has a very fruity flavour. The snack consists of water, apple juice from concentrate plus other products that make it taste like the strawberry.

They can be bought in packs of six and each container which is 92 grams in weight has 90 calories and zero grams of fat.

They have a lot of positive reviews online due to the unique taste that actually resembles Starbursts.

Arby’s Brown Sugar Bacon

Arby’s is a fast food restaurant that is located across the United States of America and has more then 3,000 venues, it was founded in 1964 in Ohio and was so popular it just kept getting bigger.

In 2024, it was announced that Arby’s was bringing back Brown Sugar Bacon in three different varieties. Brown Sugar Bacon BLT has the speciality meat mixed with savory bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise in a King’s Hawaiian bun. The Roast Beef and Brown Sugar Bacon sandwich has melted Swiss Cheese and creamy Dijon mustard. The final version mixes Turkey with the brown sugar bacon with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and Dijon spread.

All three sandwiches are limited editions and can be purchased for around $6.49-$6.69 depending on what you are purchasing.

There are mixed reviews on the sandwiches as the sugar bacon is a unique taste – apparently it creates a new layer of crunch but it is also incredibly sweet.
