very Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at the second fiction book by Bob Mortimer.
The Hotel Avocado (2024)
Bob Mortimer
Synopsis
Gary Thorn is struggling with a big decision. Should he stay in London, wallowing in the safety of his legal job in Peckham and eating pies with his next door neighbour, Grace and her dog Lassoo, or should he move to Brighton, where his girlfriend Emily is about to open The Hotel Avocado? Either way, he’d be letting someone down.
But sinister forces are gathering in a cloud of launderette scented-vape smoke, and the arrival of the mysterious Mr Sequence puts Gary in an even worse predicament: soon he might be dead.
All Gary wants is a happy life. But he also wants to be alive to enjoy it…

Positive Points
If you were a fan of the first book then you are going to really enjoy the sequel. The Hotel Avocado is a really good read, engaging and not what you expect. You think the story is going one way and then it surprises you and goes in a completely different direction.
Negative Points
The term S******** is mentioned a lot – the first time it is fine to define someone but it feels like it is used way too much and feel boring.
Overall Review
Overall, I really liked this book, it made me want to keep turning the pages and find out what happened next. There is some quirky Bob related things still in it such as the squirrel and in depth descriptions of food like pies but they are quite fun to have. It is a really good story and I would read it again.
