There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to the feature that will appear regularly in the travel section.

If there is one thing that you see a lot of in American television shows or films then it is a boardwalk. They are always somewhere secluded in American shows or films, then it is a boardwalk. They are always where something emotional happens or someone needs to think they go to a boardwalk. In 2013, I stayed for a couple of days at a hotel that had a massive nature reserve. Imagine my luck and surprise when I got to experience a similar boardwalk myself.

The boardwalk was away from anything and due to the fact that it was December and out of tourist season, we had it to ourselves which was pretty special.

You could imagine why people used these on television shows for emotional moments – they were very relaxing – looking out to calm and smooth water – it was really wonderful.

This photograph is one of many that I took of the moment – I really hope it reflects the sense of calmness and the stillness. I really liked this angle of the groynes along the boardwalk and it creates a sense of drama to this photograph.
