How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?
I’ve always been a massive fan of the post-apocalyptic genre and particularly the Fallout games. The word Wasteland is used a lot in Fallout and similar media and it conjures a brilliant image in the mind that captures the atmosphere I wanted to go for with this show.
It’s specifically called Tales From The Wasteland due to the framing device of an old storyteller in a bunker telling (probably untrue) tales from out in the wastes. The tales could take us anywhere!
Tell us a little bit about your style of show?
Our show is an improvised comedy which tells a brand new and never seen again narrative, all with a deep post-apocalyptic setting. We do a lot of worldbuilding each show to establish a new style of wasteland every time.
So come along to multiple shows, it can be wildly different! In the past we’ve ranged from surviving on an earth being covered in constant fire, to everyone being allocated their mating partner in a repressed totalitarian society, to the takeover of a religious cult who worship cat memes.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Anything improvised or absurdist is up my street. A few I’ve seen online which I’m excited about are: The Silliad, Improv The Dead and The Homosexual’s Guide to the Galaxy
What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?
Go ahead and try it! This is the first year we’ll be at Camden Fringe and I was very sceptical that we’d even get offered a place at a theatre but we got a response so fast. So if you’re worried about being accepted, just give it a go and try
What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?
I’ll let you know after we’ve performed there for the first time
London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?
Never pay for public toilets, always use the nearest wetherspoons
What are your three favourite things about Camden?
Camden Market (especially K-Dogs), The Worlds End pub and the utter confusion the first time you walk through Cyberdog
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Any of the great improv teachers I’ve had over the years so they could either look proud or ashamed of their time wasted teaching me. E.g. Katy Schutte, Susan Harrison, Monica Gaga
The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?
Lord Featherton
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
You can follow our instagram at wasteland_improv. We post pictures and clips from our shows
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Fun Mutant Raiders
