Hello! Tell us about yourself?
One of the weirder things about me is that I love comedy and crypto equally. I’ve been involved in both for awhile. I’ve been in the crypto industry since 2015 when I moved into this house called the Crypto Castle. I spent time dabbling in different crypto projects and then travelled the world for a year, teaching people about the basics of crypto. And I’ve been doing improv comedy since 2012 and perform around New York City on various teams.
Aside from crypto and comedy, I love spontaneous adventures and have been known to fly to a country, buy a used bike, and try to make my way around it.
Tell us all about your show!
It’s 2015 and one Bitcoin is $250 (now $65,000). I touch down in San Francisco to work in tech and need a place to live. Enter: The Crypto Castle – a 5 bed house with 14 crypto bros. What could go wrong? Swept into a world where dropouts become millionaires overnight, I want a piece of it and will discover just how much I’m willing to compromise to become one of them. **A true story where names have been changed to protect me from getting sued.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
I kept a journal while I was living in the Crypto Castle and the crypto bros would always joke that it would make a great book. One afternoon, while we were all in the living room eating Cheez-Its with Nutella, my housemate said I should call the book New Kids on the Blockchain. So, even though the book evolved into a show, the name still stuck.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I’m very excited to see Charlie George: Burning Down the House at Pleasance Courtyard. Charlie is an ex-Jehovah’s Witness escape artist and walking survival guide and she brings the audience on a hilarious journey from the brink of doomsday’s doorstep to the present.
Also excited for Molly Brenner: Inhibited at The Stand. Molly really, really wanted something. After years of obsession, she finally got it. In this new hour, comedian Molly Brenner considers: what is pleasure, and what does it mean to be satisfied?
And two others to check out are Man Up: A Show for Women! which will be at C Arts and 3HAMS which will be at Just the Tonic.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
If it’s anything like my routine back home, I wake up, think about meditating, decide against it, think about running and hopefully commit to that, and then hunt down a nice coffee.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Hike 15 miles every morning before 8am. You’ll be so exhausted that anything and everything will seem silly and fun. And come learn and laugh at crypto! Who knows, maybe you’ll get a free NFT.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
I’m not picky, as long as there’s a basket of bread that comes with the meal.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
You get an automatic radar of the people in your circle that are “in the know.” When you say, “I’m going to the Fringe” and they say, “What’s that?”, start your 15 mile hike at that exact moment in the opposite direction.
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Always wear running shoes.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Portable charger, portable charger, portable charger
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
I sure hope it’s ensuring that each flyer has an NFT for people to collect. But I guess we’ll see!
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@vivford on Twitter and Instagram
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Crypto = future. Haha?
