Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi! I’m Rhiannon Jenkins, an actor and writer from London, now based in Boston. I trained in Musical Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and have a diverse background in immersive theatre and musical productions. I’ve performed internationally, and directed at esteemed theatres in London and Austin. I’m passionate about exploring complex themes through humour, sexuality, and interactive performance, and I’m excited to be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
Tell us all about your show!
Good Girl is a sexy, funny Fringe show that dives into female sexuality, male fantasies, and societal constructs of womanhood. I play a character who embodies the archetype of the “good girl” – obliging, pretty, and eager to please – but there’s much more beneath the surface. The show uses sex, comedy, and a lot of gonzo audience interaction to challenge perceptions and spark steamy but meaningful conversations. Join us at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024 for an unforgettable experience.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
The name “Good Girl” is a playful nod to the expectations women face to conform to multiple, sometimes conflicting, standards of behaviour and appearance. It’s a cheeky title that sets the stage for a deeper exploration of what it really means to be a “good girl” in today’s world, inviting the audience to reconsider and reimagine those roles in ways that will make them happier. It’s perfect for a Fringe performance.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I’m always excited to see a range of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, especially with skilled comedy performers like Zach Zucker, Natalie Palamides, Séayoncé, Thanyia Moore, or Tara Boom. Last time at the Fringe, I went to Stamptown three times and if there’s one show I would recommend (other than Good Girl) it would absolutely be Stamptown.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe?
I have been in a variety of productions at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival over the years, from scripted drama to panel shows to improv, and it’s always been an incredible, if gruelling, experience. The best advice I’ve received is to stay flexible and open to the unexpected, engage with your audience both during and outside of the show, and take care of yourself amidst the hectic schedule. For new performers, I’d say embrace the chaos, promote your show with enthusiasm, and make sure to enjoy every moment of this festival.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe.
A typical day at the Edinburgh Fringe starts with a good breakfast to fuel the day. I then spend some time flyering and promoting the show, meeting other performers and potential audience members. Before the performance, I take some time to warm up and go over any last-minute details at the theatre with my director, Chris Griswold. After the show, I like to relax by catching other performances and soaking up the festival’s electric atmosphere and getting crazy on a dance floor.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the Fringe?
The best way to enjoy the Edinburgh Fringe is to dive in and experience as much as you can. See a variety of shows, engage with other performers and audiences, and take in the energy of the festival. Make sure to balance your schedule with some downtime to rest and recharge.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Edinburgh has so many fantastic places to eat during the Fringe, but one of my favourites is Makar’s Mash; it’s a great spot right in the centre of town that offers fantastic food all based around mashed potato. If you’re coming from overseas, it’s a great intro to traditional Scottish food.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The best thing about performing at the Edinburgh Fringe is the incredible opportunity to connect with audiences and fellow performers from around the world. The energy and creativity that fill the festival are inspiring, and it’s an amazing platform to showcase and develop work.
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
If you have specific shows you want to target, plan your schedule carefully and allow extra time for travel between venues. Edinburgh can get quite crowded during the Fringe, so it’s important to be prepared for delays. Comfortable shoes are a must, and always have your phone handy and your map downloaded to navigate a city with tricky mobile service. That being said, I’m a big advocate for just going with the flow; there are so many shows happening in so many locations, it can be fun to just wander and see what takes your fancy.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
- Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes – you’ll be doing a lot of walking and possibly in the rain!
- Flyers and promotional materials – to spread the word about your show.
- A good water bottle – staying hydrated is key to maintaining energy and performance quality.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Engage with people genuinely and enthusiastically. Don’t just hand out flyers; strike up conversations and make a personal connection. Be confident and passionate about your show, and let that excitement come through in your interactions. Successful flyering at the Fringe means connecting with your audience.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Sexy. Funny. Empowering. Don’t miss this must-see Edinburgh Fringe show!
