Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m an amateur presidential historian and professional actor and honestly neither of those jobs are very lucrative.

Tell us all about your show!

A solo musical comedy show by Abraham Lincoln (if he had written one). You thought winning the American Civil War was hard, try writing a solo hour.

How did you come up with the name for the show you’re taking to the fringe?

It’s a secret nickname I’ve had for my favorite president. When you look at Abe Lincoln, don’t you think “wow what a babe?”

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Anything produced by Stamptown, and especially Stamptown itself. I have never laughed harder than…well I won’t spoil it.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe?

I did the Fringe for the first time in 2022. I was really lucky to bring my band with me so I wasn’t alone. If you can have some friends, or quickly make friends I think that’s probably the best way to stay sane while at Fringe. Everyone needs a reality check once in a while. Friends can do that! Friends can also right-size reviews and weird performances. Friends will let you cry about wanting to quit while standing next to a circus tent and then not let you quit. Don’t quit!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

My show last time was late and I was staying at Queen Margaret University in Musselburgh so it was kind of a bizarre routine. I would wake up around 10am, workout at the weird college gym, take the train into town to start flying or see other shows before my call at 8:30pm. At some point I would eat like one meal. Do my show and then run to catch the train back because trains stop running after 11pm! I really appreciate the UK train workers dedication to work/life balance. May we all stop running at 11pm.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Just see as many shows as you can! See weird stuff. Get weird!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Standing over a barrel in Pleasance courtyard with that amazing chicken halloumi wrap from the stand. Americans don’t do halloumi and that’s our greatest shame! But honestly, Let Me Eat saved me because they are right next to Cowgate and have salads.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The other performers and creators. It inspires you to not suck.

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

Wear good shoes, prepare to run. Start training now.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Personal voice steamer, portable phone charger, and supportive shoes

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

I dressed as Marilyn Monroe and had my bandmates dress as the secret service so I guess I’m saying, lose any sense of self-consciousness cause you gotta sell tickets baby!

If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?

Instagram @ellmac5

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Sexy singing beard
