Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I’m Mark Vigeant, an energetic and silly comedian based in Los Angeles. I’ve performed solo shows like ‘Mark Pleases You,’ which had a critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and won several awards, including ‘Best of the Fest’ at the San Diego International Fringe Festival. Offstage, I co-host the children’s sports podcast ‘Game On’ on Audible, write for the meditation series ‘The Daily Jay’ on Calm, and I’m currently studying clowning at The Idiot Workshop.
Tell us all about your show!
The Best Man Show is an interactive and darkly hilarious wedding reception where comedian Mark Vigeant plays the Groom’s brother Paul, who has been asked to give the toast at an untraditional polyamorous commitment ceremony. It starts out fun and silly, with your typical masculine roasting and ribbing – and slowly devolves into a drunken existential crisis where Paul tries desperately to understand what it means to love, but can’t get over his own masculinity to recognise how lonely he is. Filled with laughter, singing, dancing, crying, screaming, clowning, bubbles, audience participation, and more.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
The show’s name stems from the situation which the entire show is based on – A hilariously goofy best man speech, but its THE best man speech.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I took my show “Mark Pleases You” to fringe last year and it was a beautiful experience. After doing fringe once already, I became hyper aware of the need to attack the flyering process and encourage your show’s spread by word of mouth. If you put real effort into these two things then it will pay off!
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
The best way to enjoy and live fringe to the fullest is to go to as many shows as possible. Introduce yourself to anyone and everyone, and always ask for more recommendations!
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The best thing about performing at fringe is the variety of not just audiences, but people in general. You will see some pretty crazy things and as a performer sometimes they occur right as you are performing.
Top tips for traveling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Make a massive plan of shows you want to for sure see on specific days – but leave yourself times to go find something random as well!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
JBL Speaker, trusty bugle, and a cut out of your own face.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Be genuine!
If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?
To follow my story and see what I’m up to, finding Mark Vigeant on Instagram, X, and tiktok are all good options.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Unpredictable, immersive, introspective
