Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hello! I’m Anna Morris and I’m an actor, writer and comedian and I’ve just written my first play – Son of a Bitch!

Tell us all about your show!

My show is about a woman who is filmed calling her 4 year old son a c*** on a plane. It goes viral – and the show is all about the fallout and the lead up to this moment – the worst 10 seconds of her life. It explores themes of maternal ambivalence, choices, middle-age and the expectations and judgement placed on women – both Mothers and the childfree/childless.

How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the Fringe?

The name of the show is the hashtag that starts trending when people on social media begin to attack the main character (Marnie) and the way she’s treated her son. #sonofabitch !

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the Fringe?

Everything at Summerhall! I think I’m going to just sleep there. I have seen the programme and it’s just incredible and so diverse.

Have you done the Fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the Fringe.

Yes  – this is my first time in the theatre section. I’ve done 6 shows in the comedy genre before.

My advice is to remember your audience – this can get lost amidst the pressures you put on yourself to get great reviews, sell tickets, get an Agent or whatever it is you might be trying to achieve. Remember your audience – the people in front of you – no matter how many people come. Start with that -connect with them, listen and grow – and the rest will follow.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Yoga in the morning – it’s the only way I can clear my head and feel grounded. Then usually checking my emails and having a coffee, maybe doing some social media and seeing a show if I have time. A line-run – no matter how many times I do it I still obsess over remembering lines! My show, then food then maybe another show and early night!

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the Fringe?

Don’t over-plan! Plan a few things but leave gaps for shows you stumble upon and take time to look up and see the amazing beauty of Edinburgh.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

I went to Mother India last time with some friends – the best Indian meal I’ve ever had!

Best thing about performing at the Fringe?

Meeting other Artists!

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

Plan for shows running late and try and give yourself a big enough gap to walk there (crowds will slow you down), go to the toilet, get a drink. Rushing will make you stressed. Walk everywhere!

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the Fringe?

A nice tea (I like Yoga Tea Throat Tea), tissues cos you probably will cry at some point (in the best way) a book so you can switch off sometimes and just read and chill.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Smile, don’t be aggressive, tell people about the show.

If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?

@SonOfABitchPlay on the usual platforms!

And finally, in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Don’t. Miss. Out!
