Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I am an Irish comedian living in London and I’m bringing my debut show Tall Baby to the Edinburgh Fringe! I am so excited for my debut as I have been a comedian for a while now and feel like I am ready for the festival.

Now this is the bit where I brag about myself, which for an Irish person is like basically sacrilegious but I am told I need to convince people to buy tickets to my show. I host two hit podcasts The Jump and Fad Camp, winner of the Irish Podcast Awards – Best Entertainment Podcast 2023. I was a finalist in the Vodafone Irish Comedian of the Year 2017 and UK Funny Women’s Ones to Watch 2019. And during the pandemic I won the BBC Galton & Simpson Bursary for Comedy Writing! Phew okay the bragging is over (please don’t tell anyone in Ireland I wrote that, my passport will be revoked)

Tell us all about your show!

Tall Baby is about how I moved to London on my own at the age of 33. It was post pandemic and I wanted to change things up by becoming a human adult who has fun. The only issue was…..everything. I tried one-night stands, it did not go well as I have a very Catholic fear of sex. I was diagnosed with foot trauma, I’m still not quite sure what that means. I had to read my very own missing person’s report, it was humbling to say the least. Basically, the show is about how no matter where you go, there you are.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

Tall Baby is the phrase I use to describe all adults. We are just tall babies pretending to like gnocchi. No matter what age I get to, I still feel like a tall baby. And I have never felt more like a tall baby than when I moved to the big city of London on my own.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

There are so many incredible acts I want to see – Alison Spittle. Gearoid Farrelly. Joanne McNally. Zach Zucker. Ania Magliano.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I performed in a children’s play about 10 years ago at the Fringe. I played a Princess who was waiting for a prince to marry her (very little has changed in my life). I had to flyer as a Princess with a cast of actors. My advice to groups is remember this is meant to fun so try if a performance doesn’t go to plan just shake it off. You are all exhausted so be kind to one another. And if you stub your toe while playing a princess on stage, do not curse in front of children.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Wake up. Contemplate my life choices. Buy myself a treat. See a show. Flyer. Consider retraining as an accountant. Buy myself another treat. Perform show. Laugh or cry depending on how the show went. Buy myself a final treat. Go see another show. Promise not to buy anymore treats tomorrow.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Have a loose plan for what you want to see at the Fringe. Book tickets to a few shows (my show of course!). Then wander around the city and go see the next show that’s on. The best Fringe days are a mix of shows you couldn’t wait to see and shows you never knew existed!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

It’s like doing a marathon without all the boring running.

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

Have a plan! Prebook tickets to certain performances you want to see and then drop into random shows as you are walking around. And don’t be afraid to go to a show on your own.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

A notebook, a phone and flyers.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Embrace the motto ‘humiliation is good for the soul’

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

You can find me spending way too much time on Instagram @gracemulveycomedy & trying to understand Gen Z on Tik Tok @gracemcomedy

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Funny. Tall. Baby.
