Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi! I’m Yoz by name, clown by nature, theatre maker by nurture – from the festival city of Adelaide, Australia!
Tell us all about your show!
In the search for clear social rules to follow, an earnest castaway discovers the world of clowning.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the Fringe?
All signs have a story, right? “No food stuffs on the photocopier”, and “Do not operate heavy machinery” have clear origins – but the sign “No babies in the sauna” …? Is it for the sake of the baby, or those in the sauna?
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the Fringe?
Michaela Burger – The State of Grace, Ten Thousand Hours – Gravity and Other Myths, MESSY FRIENDS – Gendermess Productions – and so many more I don’t even know about yet!
Have you done the Fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the Fringe
I wish I was told to pace myself! It’s a month of madness, it’ll envelope you regardless – just tether yourself to reality and slowly submerge. You don’t need to meet everyone on the first night or see everything in the first week; take a deep breath and enjoy it one day at a time!
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the Fringe?
See shows by people you’ve never heard of – you’ll likely be surprised and find many gems!
Best thing about performing at the Fringe?
Being a part of a global creative tapestry – a single thread in a tableaux dipstick of the cultural zeitgeist. I’m also a massive show off, so I love the attention a month of performing nets me.
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Don’t be too optimistic – you’ll still miss things. The last thing you, or the performer of the show you’re currently sitting in, wants is for you to have to duck off early to get to your next viewing – you’ve likely missed the pathos – THE PATHOS!!!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the Fringe?
A box of multivitamins, supportive footwear, and a towel – trust me.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Have fun. Play silly games, do bits, make up voices! Not only does this make the whole experience easier and far more enjoyable for YOU, if people can see you’re having a laugh just out on the street, they’ll be intrigued by your energy and more likely to take a flyer!
If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?
@yozihaha on all platforms – it’s my name + what I hope to emit from people.
And finally, in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Milky. Pickle. Orgy.
