Hello! Tell us about yourself?
My name is Laura and I live in Edinburgh. I did the Fringe last year and then I was too tired to leave so now I am adjusting to my new life here. I am originally from Western Australia. My favourite colour is brown. My favourite food is ice cream from a van.
Tell us all about your show!
Albatross feels like my first Scottish show since I moved here. It’s about numbness and connection. It’s about birds and a ghost that is haunting my microwave. It’s about paintings and pirates and lighthouse keepers and fascism and dancing in the street.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
I usually go by a blind gut instinct. I find naming the shows the hardest part about making them and weirdly it’s always the thing you have to do first.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I am really looking forward to seeing Amy Matthews and Grace Jarvis. Also Nabil Abdulrashid had my favourite fringe show of 2023 and I’m so glad he’s bringing it back this year, even just for one show.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I’ve done it a few times. The number one piece of advice I would give anyone performing at the Fringe would be to invest in a really good pair of comfortable walking shoes.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
I go into town to do my show, then I like to sit in the meadows and take notes on it. My favourite part of Fringe is ping-ponging around between late night spots.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Just follow your heart. There’s no wrong way to do it.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Tesco Express.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
I think just the intensity of it. It really does build up those muscles. I like learning those tiny little adjustments that you just can’t see unless you do a show that many times in a row.
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Book shows together in lovely little clusters around the same hubs. Spend a day in each venue hub and then move to the next.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
A raincoat, a water bottle and some cash for the bucket shows.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
I like to flyer after my show has finished, so there’s no pressure to get people in immediately. Maybe they will come back the next day.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
It’s for you.
