Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Our latest single is, ‘Forget and Forgive’, the lead track from our new album. It’s a return to our love for rock and guitar-driven music and lyrically navigates through themes of betrayal, the importance of making amends and the transformative power of forgiveness.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
It was quite a quick one to write and was a lot of fun in the studio piecing it together. I think my favourite lyric would be the opening lines, “I’m so tired of you fooling around, been caught out, sleeping about”, not because they’re clever but just because they set the scene right away. You know exactly what’s gone wrong, where you stand and what the message is going to be in the rest of the song. It cuts to the chase.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
Our favourite album filler would be ‘Easy Come, Easy Go’. We really enjoyed writing and recording this one. Big guitar sounds in the choruses and then stripping it back and honing it in on the verses, playing to the dynamics of the vocal, particularly with the drums. It’s quite a reflective song with the “I should’ve known better” tagline at the end of each chorus and we really hope we’ve captured this with the arrangement too.
Your favourite song to play live:
Our favourite to play live at the moment would have to be ‘Best Thing I Ever Had’. The response has always been overwhelmingly positive live and it was a lot of fun to play over festival season last year. It’s got a lot of energy and we love jamming around and creating different live intros for it.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
The longest track to write would be the closing track, ‘You Can Have It All’. I actually began writing this one with a couple of friends back in 2019 and it wasn’t until going through old demos in 2021 that I decided to finish it. Sometimes you have to take a step back and time away from the tracks to come back with fresh ears. You always hear something new and have new ideas of where to take things. I then demoed and finished the track with more parts and then we recorded it as a band in 2022.
Your most emotional track:
From our new album ‘Stickman Rock’, it’s hard to pinpoint the most emotional track as it’s a darker, deeper album for us. ‘Open Arms’ is arguable the most moving, heartfelt track navigating the emotional landscape of hope, loss and unwavering love amidst the challenges of life and relationships. For the choruses we all got together in the live room to record the group vocal. We were all singing at the top of our lungs and I think it really adds to the desperation and emotion of calling out to someone.
Dream collaboration:
At the moment a dream collaboration for us would have to be Morgan Wallen. I’ve really got into my country since going to Nashville and I just love the simplicity of the lyrics, melodies and the feel good sound he has. I think we could do something cool blending our styles! The whiskey, beer and truck talk would be another positive!
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Like nothing else. Nerves because we really care and want to play our best but buzzing to perform and feel the energy from the crowd.
The hardest track to play live:
Right now we’re rehearsing the new tracks for the upcoming shows and ‘Days Like These’ is quite a handful. It’s quite a slow track and very sparse in places meaning you can hear every nuance and getting the outro groove right has taken some getting used to! We’re almost there though and think it’s going to be a nice moment in the live show.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Instruments, Marc’s zuma frame and Ben Jones.
Describe your fans in three words:
Billy, Marc, Ian
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Theo Katzman – Be The Wheel. Just the vibe of the arrangement and the lyric is class. Really impressive that it’s recorded all live in one take too! The guy’s a genius.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
A lot of new music with ‘Stickman Rock’ and some other new tracks we have in the works which might be a slightly different direction for us! So we’re excited to share that. We also have a lot of live shows planned and some festivals in the summer! All dates on our website: twoweeksinnashville.com
