Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Matney

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Our latest single “All Fired Up” was released earlier this year on UK based Roulette Records.  “All Fired Up” is a night out on the town, feeling cocky and running on all cylinders.  The hypnotic, relentless pulsating drive is definitely going to take you someplace.

Your favorite lyric in this song:

Actually, I have two I’ll run past you that I like.  “Checking my fur in the mirror” and “she moves like water on the windshield.”

I like how both lines flow.

Your favorite song that you have created that is an album track:

That’s kind of hard, they are all my babies.  It’s hard to choose a favorite, the basics and ideas for some of these tracks have been around for a while.  Once Stevie laid hands on them and the dust cleared, it’s like I’m literally listening to new songs.  So, the answer to your question is I’m still trying to decide which one is my favorite, but I’m focused on “All Fired Up” at the moment.

Your favorite song to play live:

We’re looking at touring mid to late summer. I’ve put together a band of very talented musicians. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

I’m not a very prolific writer, I’ve always been asked if I start with the riff or the lyrics first, and it really just depends.  I will struggle with a song. It may take me two weeks to get the guitar part that I like, and it may take me a month or two to get the lyrics that I like.  I never really considered the songs done their kind of surrendered.

Your most emotional track:

The whole album is designed to be upbeat.  “All Fired Up” embodies the excitement and the energy in the album.  Hence the first single.

Dream collaboration:

That’s easy, I got my dream collaboration with Stevie Salas.  Stevie is a multi-platinum artist/producer. He has worked with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Rolling Stones etc.  His last two solo albums have sold a million apiece. Stevie is a renowned producer; I can’t even begin to count how many gold records this guy has.  It’s an honor and a privilege to be working with him.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Terrified. I get stage fright.  Somebody told me that Elvis would get so nervous before a show he would throw up.  That’s me, I believe it. I love playing for people but with a live show there can be so many unforeseen circumstances. I’m a control freak.

The hardest track to play live:

We are in rehearsals now and from what I can see my guys don’t have any issues with the material.  I think some of the dance/choreography numbers need a little more work. I’m working on my best James Brown moves.  Just kidding.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Toothbrush, guitar, and my credit card, oh yeah and a mirror.

Describe your fans in three words:

Awesome, real, and loyal

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

“White Christmas” by Ben Crosby.  That song is credited for selling 50 million copies.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

We have two more singles coming out within the next few months and the album is scheduled for release in late spring or early summer.  There are plans to tour mid to late summer.  People can check out social media for the details. https://matney.rocks
