In rehearsals, it can be really easy to get stuck in a routine to do the same warm up games over and over again that they can become stagnant and boring. Well today we are going to talk about a warm up game I completely forgot about until I re-read this article and remembered just how fun it is.
The great thing about this warm up game is that it can take an ordinary object and turn it into something extraordinary or absolutely hilarious. That is why this is a warm up game which is perfect for improv because it gets you thinking outside the box and thinking of things in a different way tat you may not of thought of before.
In the game you stand in a circle if there is enough of you or even face to face if there is not many of you playing. One person would start the game by saying two random words, the first will be a descriptive word and then the second word will be an object. These could be objects that you may not even of thought of in this way before – examples include ‘sad candyfloss’ ‘happy tears’ and ‘sexy snake’. The person who came up with the two words will then choose in the circle or line is performing it ‘the best’. Then the next player makes up two words and the game goes on and on until you decide to stop.
It is a really fun game and it is also incredibly random which means it can create some really fun ideas. I have The Suggestibles in Newcastle to thank for introducing me to this game as they were the ones that used to play it in lessons. It is a fantastic game to get you in the zone for character building.
