Sunday Book Club: Between Us, Mhairi McFarlane

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a rom com book called Between Us.

Between Us
(2023)

Mhairi McFarlane

Synopsis

When Joe and Roisin join their group of friends for a weekend away, it’s a triple celebration – a birthday, an engagement and the launch of Joe’s new crime drama on TV.

But when Roisin sees secrets she shared with Joe play out on the TV screen, she knows that between us means nothing at all.

Roisin finds herself searching for clues to the truth – about her life, their history, and the man she thought she loved. And it’s then that Roisin finds the most unexpected plot twist of them all. Among those same old friends, there’s a surprising potential for new beginnings…

Positive Points

If you are looking for a fictional book that is easier to read, then this is the read for you. The narrative is an interesting concept and one that you can enjoy from the start. Throughout the book there is a hint of romance and there is also a mix of mystery which makes it unique.

Negative Points

The one thing that really annoyed me about this book was the amount of chapters – seventy five is too many for a book that is about 300-400 pages. The chapters were are really irritating sections and they were at points where there did not need to be a new change. I also felt at times near the end that the story became very random and feels very confused which was a disappointment.

Overall Review

Overall, it is a book that for me personally felt average. At first, it read well and I was interested to find out what happened and read it really fast. However, the number of chapters and the ending sort of tarnished this book for me.
