29 Days of Rom Coms – Day 4 – Bridget Jones’s Diary

Every day this month we are taking a look at a different rom com everyday to celebrate that it is a leap year in 2024 and valentines day also being in the same month.

Day 4 – Bridget Jones’s Diary

I think in some ways, I blame Bridget Jones for the way that I am. I read the book at the age of 10 or 11, I then saw the film for the first time at age 11 or 12 and it inspired me to write a diary.

Here is a the synopsis of the film:

Bridget Jones is determined to improve herself while she looks for love in a year in which she keeps a personal diary.

From the age of 12 until the age of 18 I kept a diary every single day of my life. Yes, that is correct, I wrote about everyday of High School and College, about all of school life, my crushes, embarrassments plus everything else in between.I felt writing everything down would be insightful in the future (!) and also a tad romantic (!!).

I still keep a diary of my career rather then about guys or romance. I wrote about this sort of thing up to a day when I was 21 when I wrote after a night out, cringed and decided to not write about that stuff anymore.

It’s weird in some ways, the fact that I went into a career that can some times be about journalism and other times be other the media. I do wonder sometimes if this book or film inspired my career just a tiny bit. Not a lot as I have always loved writing.

I don’t like the word spinster but I have sort of had a similarities to Bridget and I always feel I relate to this film and have always felt this from a young age.

I love Bridget Jones, it is definitely a comfort blanket and personally a perfect rom com – even though new generations have issues with it I am sorry I am going to ignore what you say about it I love it and you will never change my mind or my opinion.

Bridget has moulded y life in some extent, made me the romantic dreamer that I am and I do not settle for anything. I will not be eaten by dogs and instead I will listen to Chaka Khan and fight for what I want.
