There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to the feature that will appear regularly in the travel section.
Durham, it is a wonderful place. If you ever head here by train then the first thing that will automatically stand out is the Cathedral as it is so dramatic. It is a place I visited a lot when I lived in the North East and today we are going to take a look at one of the photographs that I took when I was there.
It was winter, the leaves were off the trees, the weather was cold and wet and I thought it would be a perfect day to head to Durham. There is something magical about this place – no it is not because parts of it were used for Harry Potter, it is just really quite extraordinary.
One of my favourite places to visit was the water which sort of goes through the town and off the beaten track of the shops. The great thing about these walks around the water is that it gives you amazing views of the Cathedral, This is where this particular photograph was taken.
The thing I love about the Cathedral is that it gives height and drama to any photograph you take. I decided to add a photo effect to this image of sepia tones because I felt it enhanced the coldness and made the image grand, cold and bold.
I really love this photograph, it reminds me of the great times I used to have in this city and always makes me want to go back and revisit.
