It is the new year which only means one thing, it is time to celebrate acts that you should be keeping an eye on this year! Today we find out all about Tanya Truman Productions.
Hello, tell us all about Tanya Truman Productions?
Tanya Truman Productions is a new production company with a current focus on amplifying female-led, contemporary Jewish stories.
How was 2023 for you?
2023 was fantastic and very busy… ‘Pickle’ transferred to Soho Theatre (following sold-out runs at Park Theatre in 2022), I produced ‘Fury and Elysium’ at the Other Palace studio, co-produced ‘The Arc: A Trilogy of New Jewish Plays’ with Emanate Productions at Soho Theatre, and produced ‘These Demons’ at Theatre503. I also began R&D on a new musical ‘Becoming Nigella’ which hopefully you’ll hear more about in 2024…
What were the top 3 highlights for you?
I got to go to New York City with Stage One on the Producing Exchange programme which was incredible, my first time in New York and I couldn’t have loved it any more. That was definitely a highlight. Starting development on ‘Becoming Nigella’ has also been so joyful, I can’t wait to continue working on this show next year. Finally, I curated and produced an event called ‘Female Jewish Voices’ at JW3 earlier this year. I platformed 8 female, Jewish writers who showcased brand new short pieces of work in development, and I’m hoping to produce more events like this in 2024 as it was a success and an incredibly exciting evening.
What was the key lesson you learned from last year?
Collaborations are everything. I’ve been so fortunate this year to work with so many amazing people, many of whom I now call friends, and to me, this is so important. Relationships and collaborations in this industry are key for getting you through the hard times so I’m really grateful for everyone I’ve met and worked with this year.
What are your plans for 2024?
Continue touring ‘Pickle’, as this show is just in constant demand from audiences which is wonderful to see! Further development workshops and possibly some public performances of ‘Becoming Nigella’, and another collaboration with Emanate Productions is brewing… plus some exciting new collaborations you’ll hear more about soon!
What other shows are you looking forward to watching next year?
I’m excited to see Hadestown, as well as the musical adaptation of several of my favorite films growing up! ‘Mean Girls’, ‘Clueless’, ’13 Going on 30′, and ‘Devil Wears Prada’ are all films I watch on repeat and have done since I was a teenager so I am very curious and looking forward to seeing them on stage next year!
What show is your ‘one to watch’ in 2024 and why?
Benjamin Button. I adored it at Southwark and I’ve heard rumours it might be coming back in 2024 so this would absolutely be my ‘one to watch’, it’s a stunning and very special show.
Do you have any new years resolutions? If so what are they?
Probably to try and limit my screen time, this year has been busy and has meant I’ve pretty much been glued to my phone, my screen time has been ridiculous! I’d love to bring this down in 2024…
