Sunday Book Club: Forever and A Day, Anthony Horowitz

Every other Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. All this month we are looking at the James Bond trilogy by author Anthony Horowitz

Forever And A Day (2018)

Anthony Horowitz

Synopsis

The sea keeps its secrets. But not this time. One body. Three bullets. 007 floats in the waters of Marseille, killed by an unknown hand.

It’s time for a new agent to step up.

Time for a new weapon in the war against organised crime.

It’s time for James Bond to earn his licence to kill.

This is the story of the birth of a legend, in the brutal underworld of the French Riviera.

007 is back. After authentically recreating the golden age of James Bond in his high-speed thriller, Trigger Mortis, Anthony Horowitz is back in Ian Fleming’s shoes once more.  In Forever and a Day he brings readers an official prequel to Casino Royale, telling the story of the origins of the world’s most famous secret agent.

Positive Points

If you ever wondered how James Bond became 007 then this book by Anthony Horowitz may be for you. It is jammed packed with action and really throws you right in the deep end. I really enjoyed this book because it was unexpected, well written and it was fully well rounded. The story was fascinating, brutal at times but it allows you to see how the spy develops. It again has original content by Ian Fleming in it as well.

Negative

Even though this time I felt that the book ended correctly I still would of liked more chapters but only because it was a very good story.

Overall Review

This is a fantastic read and definitely my favourite of the trilogy as it was captivating and everything you expect from a James Bond book. It is really refreshing to see the spy in jeopardy at times and not always having all the answers. Also there is more of a balance with the female characters in it and that also makes a change.
