Welcome to the feature where we talk to musicians about some of their favourite things about the industry. Today I speak to Solnedgang who aims to be releasing a new album next year. Let’s find out about favourite things!
What is your Favourite:
Song you have written:
Folkvang
Lyric:
It doesn’t matter if we all die
Musician:
I think that will have to be Robert Smith from The Cure.
Film or television show:
I think I’ll go with Twin Peaks. I love David Lynch and the weird and slightly creepy feeling of that show. The theme tune is fantastic as well.
Venue to perform at?
I’d love to play Islington Assembly Hall in London one day
Item to take with you on tour?
Travel mug and some sort of mini coffee maker
Instrument?
I’ve got a Fret King Esprit with a vibrato installed. It’s got 3 P90s and is incredibly versatile. It sounds fantastic with any amp or pedal I’ve tried. It even works for metal, and I’ve used it a lot on the album.
Song to play live
Sessrumnir
Album by another musician?
Crack the Skye by Mastodon.
Memory of tour?
I don’t actually play live, so no tour stories I’m afraid…
Era for music?
Early 2000s was a great time for post-rock and post-metal
Part of making a record?
Definitely writing and recording. I just love coming up with a melody or riff that I like, and you can’t beat the feeling when a song comes together.
Thing about performing at festivals?
I wouldn’t want to go on too early!
Quote?
Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans
Thing about the music industry at the moment?
How much easier it is these days for independent artists to record and release music.
Thing about this year so far?
I’m hoping my album will be finished by the end of the year!
