Welcome the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today I speak to the band Exilia. They have an exciting 2024 ahead of them as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album ‘Unleashed.’ Today we speak to the band and ask them some difficult questions.
What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?
Hi everyone, the most challenging lyrics I’ve had to write were for the song ‘KILL ME,’ which addresses the atrocities that occurred in Guantanamo Bay. The reason it was so difficult is because it forced us to confront the harsh realities of abuse and violence that we witnessed. It’s a stark reminder that violence permeates our world, and it’s something we all need to deeply reflect upon in our hearts and souls.
What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?
I think the quirkiest gift from a fan was an oversized, bright pink bra.
Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?
So many amazing bands and musicians we’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with, but if we had to choose, we’d give a special shoutout to Drowning Pool and In Extremo. They are the best, not just musically but also in terms of their humanity and camaraderie.
What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?
From our latest record ‘Not The End Of The World,’ one of the most challenging songs to rehearse for a live audience has to be a very special track with various musical shades. It transitions between heavy and fluid sections, and replicating the album’s complexity live without relying on playback tracks was a demanding task. We’re not big fans of using fake instrumental production, so we put in a lot of effort to make this song shine in our live performances.
Dream Collaboration and why ?
We would absolutely love to collaborate with Rick Rubin, and it’s not hard to see why. Rick Rubin is an iconic producer known for his transformative work with countless artists. His ability to bring out the essence of an artist and elevate their sound is unparalleled.
