Every other Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a book that talks about travelling around Arabia
Arabia: A Journey Through The Heart of the Middle East (2019)
Levison Wood
Synopsis
Following in the footsteps of great explorers such as Lawrence of Arabia and Wilfred Thesiger, Arabia is Levison Wood’s account of his most complex expedition yet: circumnavigating the Arabian Peninsula.
Travelling through some of the harshest and most beautiful environments on earth, he seeks to challenge our perceptions of an often misunderstood part of the world, seeing how the region has changed and examining the stories we don’t often hear about in the media.
– from Waterstones
Positive Points
If you are looking for a book that is an interesting read, then this is a factual adventure that you will enjoy. The book takes you on the twists and turns of trying to travel across the Middle East and along the way there are some shocking twists that make you want to keep on reading. There are tales where they nearly head into the front line ofa war zone which is an interesting and also terrifying read. However, apart from that there are also some really fascinating sections about the people of the Middle East that you may not of heard about which makes it really educational as well.
Negative Points
Like all books about geogrpahy.y, it goes out of date very quickly as the world is always developing so you need to get into th headset of 2017 to really focus on the book. Also there is a lot of stories about war which you may not be interested in reading.
Overall Review
This is an interesting read and it gives you an insight into the Middle East, however, I would say that other books by Levison Wood are a much better read. This had some really interesting sections to it but because he doesn’t walk the whole length because its too dangerous like he does with his other books it feels slightly off theme. I would recommend it as an interesting read but there is a lot of war, be warned. Also with the recent news events, a lot of this book now feels out of date but it is still interesting to read.
