INTERVIEW – A Quick Conversation With: Sucker Punch

Welcome the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today we speak to the band Sucker Punch, this month they have released new music and are set to release a new EP in the up and coming months! Today I ask them some tough questions!

What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?

There is a line from the bridge in the song, “Hope Like Hell,” that always resonates with the crowd: “If I could wake up tomorrow and feel okay, don’t you think I’d have started yesterday?” We wanted to draw attention to the obvious fact that depression isn’t something you could just “turn off,” like a button on a switch. It’s not that simple.

What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?

We haven’t received many gifts, but fans have gotten us drinks after a show a few times. We always appreciate that!

Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?

We have been very fortunate enough to share the stage with a few notable bands such as Can’t Swim, The Plot in You, and Scary Kids Scaring Kids. Our buds in Halogens are one of the most talented bands in the NJ scene. We’ve shared the stage with them quite a bit and have a big show planned with them among other great Jersey bands in November. Be on the lookout!

What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

We have a new song called, “I’m Ready to Ride Giants, Kunu” that has a lot of transitions from clean parts to heavier distorted parts. There are also three different vocal parts going on at the same time during the second verse. A lot of back and forth between cleans and harsh vocals are also present too. It is our most dynamic song to date and just requires a lot of focus and attention to detail.

Dream Collaboration and why?

Without a doubt, our singer Chris, is a huge fan of Derek Sanders from Mayday Parade. It would be an honor to have him on a song!
