The last time we spoke to Linus Karp it was just before the Edinburgh Fringe in July. The writer and performer had an incredibly successful run selling out night after night. Now, the show Diana: the untold and Untrue Story is going on tour starting on the 27th September at The Old Joint Stock Theatre in Birmingham and finishing on the 6th December at Clapham Grand. (more information about locations and dates can be found here). I caught up with Linus to find out all about it.
Hello Linus how are you? The last time we spoke, you were heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe, how was it for you this year?
Hello! I’m very well thank you, still recovering from the Fringe. We had an amazing month, sold out the run and got incredible reactions, I couldn’t be more pleased.
What was the best reaction / comment you got to your shows whilst you were there?
A woman dressed in hot pink came up to me after the show and said “I loved this more than I loved the Barbie movie” – and that felt like a pretty good compliment.
What did you learn this year from the Fringe?
That I really am a Princess.
You are going back on tour with your show Diana! What can you tell us about it?
We are going to so many exciting venues. We’ve never stopped working on the show and the version of it we got towards the end of the fringe is the best its ever been and I’m just so proud of every aspect of the show.
The show is a loving celebration of the People’s Princess that combines drag, puppetry, multimedia, song, dance and audience participation to create something ridiculous and life changing. If I do say so myself.
What are your essential items that you are taking with you?
A steamer, a Joseph (my fiancé/creative partner) and an egg & cress sandwich.
What is your favourite thing about touring?
I love getting to experience wildly different cultures – the wildlife of Poole, the secrets of Cardiff and the magic of Farnham. I can’t wait.
What’s the most challenging?
The wildlife of Poole, the secrets of Cardiff and the magic of Farnham.
If people want to find out more where can they visit on social media?
All the show details, tour dates and salacious gossip can be found at @awkwardprods on all social media.
Finally what else can we expect from you in 2024?
You can expect me to still look cute despite being a year older than I am now.
