There are a lot of new comedians making their debut this year, so it can be really hard to decide which ones to see. I don’t know why I chose to see Tatty, maybe it was the vibrant picture on the poster, maybe it was due to the following she has on social media, I don’t know, but I knew that I wanted to see her and I had a feeling that If did not, I would regret it. My sixth sense was correct and it definitely isn’t a show you want to miss.
Tatty is English but spent half of her life living in France and the whole show is based around comparisons of the culture, the differences she experiences in both and much more. It is an incredibly high energy show and the hour goes by so fast you are left wanting more and there is definitely a potential for this to be expanded.
The interaction with the audience is not like normal stand up, she is engaging and gives the people she does talk to a safe space. There was one predominant French member of the audience and one English member of the audience that were spoken to a lot throughout to highlight points and it worked incredibly well and made the show elevate itself even more.
Tatty’s persona on stage is bubbly, energetic and excitable, the way she can change from being “very french” to “very english” is something that has to be watched as it is fantastic. Like any show based around culture, there is a slight political undertone but do not let this put you off as it is very subtle and is only used to highlight certain points scattered throughout.
If you are heading to Edinburgh Fringe this year, this is a show that you have to see. Tatty is a comedian I am sure we are going to hear more and more from and you will regret not seeing her from the beginning.
