Every other Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a book that is takes us on a road trip…
The Road Trip (2021)
Beth O’Leary
Synopsis
Addie and her sister are about to embark on an epic road trip to a friend’s wedding in rural Scotland. The playlist is all planned and the snacks are packed.
But, not long after setting off, a car slams into the back of theirs. The driver is none other than Addie’s ex, Dylan, who she’s avoided since their traumatic break-up two years earlier.
Dylan and his best mate are heading to the wedding too, and they’ve totalled their car, so Addie has no choice but to offer them a ride. The car is soon jam-packed full of luggage and secrets, and with four hundred miles ahead of them, Dylan and Addie can’t avoid confronting the very messy history of their relationship…
Will they make it to the wedding on time? And, more importantly… is this really the end of the road for Addie and Dylan?

Positive Points
Initially, when I started to read this book, I really thought that I was not going to enjoy it however after a couple of chapters I started to understand the format and get into it. I found that that book was engaging, a good read and slowly builds up the universe around you. The book skips between the past and the present and I thought the concept of keep skipping between times would annoy me but it works very well as moving the story forward.
Negative Points
It is quite a hefty read and some people may find that just over 400 pages is a bit too long. You could say that some parts are predictable of a rom com drama.
Overall Review
Overall, this is a good read and if you want something to read beside the pool side on holiday this year, then it could be the book for you. It is a long read but I think you need it to build up the world around you.
