Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m Stanley Brooks, the UK’s first, foremost and only inspirator (a combination of inspire and respirator, because I breathe inspiration).

How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?

Look, it’s very important that you read the title in your head. So it’s “I Can make Me Rich” as in “You can make YOURSELF rich”. It is not “Stanley Brooks can make Stanley Brooks Rich” though I can make myself rich so that’s also true, but you should read it as “[your name] can make [your name] rich, but that’ obviously weird to think in 3rd person so it’s “I Can Make Me Rich” which is grammatically correct and self affirming. If you need help just call me and I’ll explain it down the phone.

Tell us all about your show!

I’m here to finally help you find the success and riches you deserve. In this roughly 1 hour seminar I outline the routes to success, the role models to aspire to and go through several, highly interactive exercises that will teach you the skills you need to be rich. This isn’t just a lecture about wealth, it’s a fully holistic, 360 degree asset accumulation experience. You WILL get the experience you need, you WILL learn how to get rich and you WILL leave an appropriate donation at the end.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I have a strong love of improv, as I think adaptability is vital to any business scenario. So I will be seeing The Silliad, Showstoppers, The Shambles and CSI: Crime Scene Improvisation to pick up tips on how to improvise effectively. I’ll also be seeing Suggestions of the Unexpected and Any Suggestions Doctor? The Improvised Doctor Who Parody but that’s largely because I have invested huge sums of money into both and need to see a return. I’ll also be seeing Drag Queens vs Vampires because it’s funny and you’ve got to have a day off sometimes.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I have and my main advice is that fake it til you make it will get you far in this festival, but do actually have something ready to go once you’ve made it or you’ll just be faking it forever, and soon you won’t even remember who you even are. I really feel for those people trapped in a character they made for themselves, just pretending to be someone else. But you are who you pretend to be folks. Never forget that.

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

Carpe Diem is my philosophy, for those of you who don’t know that means “ten fish”, and it means if you can imagine 10 fish, you can imagine anything.

What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?

Earlier this year I saw Tim Key and I marvelled at his use of set and props. He had no barrier with the audience at all, and I try to emulate that. I don’t want to talk at you, I want to talk WITH you.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Get up, wash, eat, walk to the royal mile, flyer, show, flyer for another show, show, eat, see another show, bed. Toward the end I’ll be doing 3 shows so instead of seeing another show I’ll be doing that instead. I’ve bitten off more than I can chew let’s be honest.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

See other shows, spend time with your loved ones, start a satisfying and financially successful career in Edinburgh and become the person you always wanted to be. Failing that, spend all your time moping about not having enough reviews and blaming students for some reason.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Doing it for a month. It’s also the worst part but it turns doing comedy into something you do everyday, and that’s not something that’s always true for a lot of us.

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

Doing it for a month. It’s also the best part but it turns doing comedy into something you do everyday, and that’s not something that’s always true for a lot of us.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Good shoes, a sun or baseball hat and a good rucksack. These things will be with you 100% of the time so don’t skimp.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Oh yeah like I’m going to tell you. If everyone knew they’d all do it.

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Someone in TV who likes my work and wants to commission it. Failing that, someone in radio. Failing that someone with just big pockets of cash.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

@stanlybrooks or via my handler @dunnace on Twitter.

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Money Money Money
