Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hello! Nice to meet you all! I’m a musical comedian based in LA. I got my start in Brooklyn, NY. And I’m originally from EVERYWHERE because I’m a military kid. I have no home. My professional bio is below.

Sophie Santos is an award-winning comedian, writer, and author of the best-selling comedic memoir, The One You Want to Marry (And Other Identities I’ve Had).  Sophie’s book debuted at number one to critical acclaim and won the Lambda Literary Award.  Sophie’s book was nominated for the Queerty Awards “Best Read” out of 1.5 million votes. They have appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and they were the Head Writer for Lil’ Interns starring Kenan Thompson. Sophie’s (other) show, The Lesbian Agenda, has a monthly run at The Bell House in New York City and has performed at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles. It has also appeared in the San Francisco Sketch Fest, New York Comedy Festival, Austin Sketch Fest, and more.  Follow Sophie @SophieESantos on Instagram for lesbian propaganda.

How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?

As a former co-dependent, it was very easy. Although, it should be “was” because I am evolved now.

Tell us all about your show!

After going through a breakup, award-winning comedian Sophie Santos butts heads and belts it out with their personified OCD.

Sophie Santos had everything: a life in Brooklyn, a book deal before the age of thirty, and their soulmate of four years. When the pandemic forces Sophie and their girlfriend, Lily, to move NEXT DOOR to Lily’s parents, Lily gets a job…in Pennsylvania. To make matters worse, Sophie’s personified OCD reappears, imploding the relationship. Sophie hires a life coach on WithMyExAgain dot net who explains the way to get back with an ex is to become the best version of yourself. Sophie and OCD travel together toward Sophie’s new life, butting heads and belting out tunes as Sophie learns to be alone.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I’m stoked to see my friend Larry Owens perform LARRY OWENS LIVE. He’s literally the best. And I can’t wait to see Ania Magliano and Britney. I heard they killed last year. Also, as a music fan, I can’t wait to see Abandoman: Future Fest, where the performer creates a futuristic three-day music festival!!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I performed in a sketch show called Riverdale Live!, which was a hypersexual reimaging of The CW’s Riverdale, which was a hypersexual reimagining of the Archie comics.

I honestly haven’t been given ANY advice. Every time I tell people I’m doing 26 shows, they just go, “Wow…that’s… a lot.” What do I even do with that?!

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

I’m Spanish and Filipino, so I like to conquer myself.

It’s the best way people can get to know me.

What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?

My friend Ever Mainard, who did the festival a couple of years back, does a new hour every single week, and most of its improvised. I’m such a perfectionist, so the thought of going up on stage and saying, “Let’s just see where this goes…” scares me to bits. I’m in awe of them and the fact that they kill. Every. Time.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Okay, so I am spitballing here. I think we should check back in after the first week to see if this holds up. You know how during the playoffs, sports broadcasters predict which team they think will win by writing on a little Post-it note and putting it on a wall? And then, they have to check their little Post-it note later and share their failure with the world? This is my Post-it note.

I imagine I will sleep all day and then grab whatever food I can shovel into my face at the very last second. I’ll probably spend more money than I need to on the last-minute meal. Had I planned ahead, I could have avoided spending $25 on takeout. THEN, I’ll get lost in a sea of Edinburgh festival attendees doing a silent rave. But then I’ll make it to the show two hours beforehand, just in time to panic until showtime.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Getting to chill in all the castles like little princes.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Being able to perform with people from all over the world. And see the coolest shit! It’s the international stage, baby!

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

Probably being away from my actual meal plan. I’m secretly a health nut now, and I’m terrified of figuring out how to cook.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Water! A meal plan (seriously, who has time to cook)! And an international phone plan.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

As a newbie, I’m going to guess… actually doing it.

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

I mean Tom Holland… He’s close, right? He lives right around the corner? Also Taylor Swift.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

They can follow me at @SophieESantos on Instagram or @TheRealSophieSantos on TikTok. My website is www.sophiesantos.com. And they can follow my variety show @TheLesbianAgendaShow on Instagram.

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

To Conquer Codependency!
