Hello! Tell us about yourself?

My name is George Zacharopoulos, I am a Greek comedian living in the UK the last 20 years. I have been doing comedy for over a decade, performed all across the UK,  Europe and Australia. Great at cooking and even better at missing flights. Happy with life and constantly grateful I haven’t died doing the stupid stuff I do.

How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?

It is a show about a completely true and utterly wild story about being in love with a girl called Alice. I hope you like it, coming up with title is more stressful than the show itself!

Tell us all about your show!

It is a completely true and mind blowing story about what happens when you fall head over heels and ignore any red flags. This is a story my friends ask me to tell at parties. I don’t want to give spoilers, but it is out there and I might get sued before this fringe ends.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I am looking forward to seeing my talented friends: Amos Gill, a fantastic comic and brilliant mind, Jonny Pelham, another comedian who makes me laugh regularly, Kate Lucas a super funny musical comedian, Dan Muggleton who hates being white and wears a tracksuit.  Kyle Legacy is also someone I laugh a lot watching. I honestly don’t know who else is going up!!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I have been doing it since 2014. It is a long stretch, so keep it steady and dont go crazy at week 1, get a core circle of friends who will be there for you, make many new friends and if you carry a bunch of flyers with you no one will give you theirs.

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

Went on stage. I said hello my name is George i’m from Greece.  Audience member got up and said “that’s preposterous”. I said “Preposterous? That’s my cousin’s name”.

I love it because it is so stupid.

What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?

I watched a comedian called Andrew Hamilton do a show called Jokes About The Time I Went To Prison. He used to be the biggest magic mushroom dealer in Australia. I absolutely loved it.

I also participated in a show called Comedy Ashes, where there is a microphone in the audience picking up the volume and comedians would go on stage so jokes and depending on how loudly audience laughed they would score points. Based on cricket, England vs Australia. I was the Umpire. Super fun!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Wake up with a hangover. Do many shows. Eat whenever i can. Meet friends. Get drunk. Go to bed.Constantly aspire to eat something healthy and not to cry in the shower.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Don’t plan every single bit of your day. The best times i’ve had was when something unexpected happened!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

I do so many shows i feel myself getting better at comedy, which is what i constantly strive for. I just want to be the best I can be and this can only happen at Festivals. Also, hanging out with my lovely idiot friends!

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

Doing many shows because somehow you have this obsession to get as good as you possibly can. And hanging out with your idiot friends.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Headphones.

A battery pack for your phone

Carnegie’s How To Make Friends And Influence People.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Be an improv group between the ages of 17-22.

Bobby Mair (another comedian i love) used to strap his baby on him and yell at people that if they dont come to his show his beautiful daughter would starve. I laughed every time i saw him. And it worked!

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Someone super rich who would give me a million pounds to fund my endeavours. Worked for Da Vinci!

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

@greekcomedian everywhere. Couldn’t  believe it was free either.  Easier than george zacharopoulos!

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

I’m very good
