Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m Laura and I’m an improviser based in Central Scotland. I can be found performing in Dating Crapp at Monkey Barrel Comedy year round and with the team Yer Da at the Glasgow Improv Theatre.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

I can’t take the credit, that goes to Jason Perez. It’s a pretty clever name.

Tell us all about your show!

We’re doing a one off big Fringe special with some amazing special guest improvisers – Connor Ratliff (RaaaatScraps, Dead Eyes Podcast), Chris Grace (Superstore, Baby Wants Candy) and Graham Dickson (Austentatious, The FA).

We get audience members on stage and project their dating profile on the big screen. They share with us all their weird, fun and wonderful dating stories and we then use those stories as inspiration for our scenes.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

The George Lucas Talk Show, The Baron and The Junk Dealer and George-Prov… big fan of Retired Filmmaker George Lucas. On the Free Fringe, Improv Cagematch at Subway is always great fun.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

No matter where you are going it will include an uphill segment or dodging some kind of silent disco tour group so give yourself extra time when walking around the city.

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

At Dating Crapp I managed to rattle out some improvised wedding vows in character as a tech bro where I declared my love for my scene partner using words like blockchain and NFT. I think I finished by saying my love for them was non-fungible. Honestly I have no idea what the words were that were coming out of my mouth but it got such a big laugh from the room. Either it turns out I actually know what the blockchain is and described it perfectly, or none of the audience knew what it was either. I’m guessing the latter.

What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?

I went to London to see The George Lucas Talk Show at the Soho Theatre after watching their mammoth live streams all through lockdown. What Connor Ratliff, Griffin Newman and Patrick Cotnoir have created is so special. Connor Ratliff is the master of quick justification. I’m dead excited to see it again within the chaos of a late night Fringe setting.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

It’ll be jumping between shows, finding myself power walking between venues because I gave myself just slightly not enough time to get there, and then running to the last train.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Work on the delicate balance between pre-booking shows you want to see based on the catalogue or past experiences and leaving enough time open to go see things on a whim, because a pal recommends it or the Guardian gave them a good review.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

There’s something really nice about doing a show, leaving the venue and the city is buzzing with shows still to see.

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

Your show will inevitably clash with something that you’d like to see.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

An emotional support water bottle, sunglasses and a back up phone charger.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Consider hiring someone who knows what they are doing.

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

My friend Holly. She laughs really loudly and I swear other audience members laugh louder because of her. Every audience could use a Holly.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

@datingcrappimprov on Instagram and TikTok

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Connor! Chris! Graham!
