Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hello, G’day and yo yo Dodo. We are The MIGHTY KIDS BEATBOX COMEDY SHOW.

That’s the show, but who the heck are you two? I hear you shout in your weirdest accent.

I am Jarred Christmas

 and I am Hobbit.

Hobbit is a world champion beatboxer and loop station champion, the sounds he makes with just his mouth are insane. Then when he uses the contraption called a Loop Station, things get really awesome and fun. He also writes only in slanty writing.

Hey! It’s just how I write. Jarred Christmas is an award winning stand-up comedian, he’s done loads of TV, like Mock the Week and The Dog Ate My Homework. He only writes with straight up and down writing.

I do, my writing is a strong and sturdy tower unlike Hobbits Leaning tower of Pisa style. It’s going to fall over one day.  Our show is for EVERYONE. Its family comedy at its best. We get the kids laughing and the parents and the people who have just popped in to have a wee sit down and escape the summer rain.

We also have a bunch of fun and silly songs that are super interactive and lots of fun. Do you like dogs and cats? We have a song about that. Do you want a pony? We also have a song about that. Do you like making silly sounds? Excellent, we can use them to make a song! It’s all about getting involved, not taking yourself too seriously and making silly jokes and wonderful sounds together!

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

We wanted to sum up the show in the title. This is our third show at the Edinburgh Fringe. Last years show was The Return of The Mighty Kids Beatbox Comedy Show, so we thought we would call this one “Strikes Back” to have an out of order star wars reference.

Tell us all about your show!

OK!Our show is controlled Chaos, we know what we are doing even if it looks like we don’t, but we have no idea what the audience is going to say or do when we ask them. We have no idea what jokes the kids will say in our Mighty Kids Comedy Club section.

Songs about cats and dogs and ponys. We even create a song using sounds from the audience!

Each show is different, and each show celebrates who we have in the audience. The positivity of our show, the energy, The laughs and the incredible beatboxing and looping really make our show a complete one off. Its good times on Fanta and Fruit shoots.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Umbilical Brothers

The Beatbox Collective: What’s Your Sound?

Jarred Christmas: Silly Billy

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

We are both Fringe veterans. Our advice would be to pace yourself and look after your voice. Don’t get bogged down with thinking what other people think of your show. Back yourself and give every show 100% even if it’s a Monday in the 3rd week and you are exhausted.Go hard or go home – but make sure to sleep!

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

We have a bit about the amount of pets Jarred has.

H: You have fish?

J: Yes. They are called number 1, number 2 and number 7… we’ve lost a few.

What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?

Anything done by European physical theatre companies. It’s always bonkers and enchanting.

Olaf falafel is so inventive and funny.

The Beatbox Collective are world champion beatboxers and have a funny and original show.

Also, recommend going to Best of the Fest or other line up shows if you are unsure of what to watch so you can a taste of what’s to offer.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Sleep in as long as possible. Nice breakfast. Relax and then walk to the venue and stretch and warm up our vocals. If you don’t warm up and get ready for the show properly you may regret it later on in the day!

The Mighty Kids is our first show and then we have 2 sometimes up to 4 other shows in the evening. The day is really for resting, the night is for laughing.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

By surrounding ourselves with friends and family. Eating well and keeping physically and mentally healthy so we can smash our shows. The shows are what we are there for. But 3 weeks solid of doing 2 or three shows a day can take its toll. If you look after yourself and surround yourself with good people then fun times are had by all!

It also helps to have a really fun show to perform every day.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Its fully immersive. That whole month is just performing and creating. Hanging out with other creative and energetic performers and watching other shows and getting inspired. It’s a real comedy boost. Laughing with the funniest people on the planet and hanging out with the most talented performers in all aspects of art. Its amazing. Plus haggis.

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

Tiredness. It’s a long month.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Clothes, water bottle and flyers… lots of flyers.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Positivity. Flyering is part of the performance.

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Our dream audience is a packed theatre full of families all laughing together and having some proper decent family time. Grannys, Grampys, Aunties, Uncies, Mums, Dads, Kids, anyone and everyone.

Ryan Reynolds would be there, dressed as Deadpool wearing an “I Love Hobbit” sticker on his forehead.

Yeah! And Miley Cyrus would come swinging in on a wreaking ball, but its a bubble wrap ball and doesn’t wreak anything and she’s throwing Haribo and she swings across the audience dressed as a unicorn.

And my old boss would be there smiling and saying to the person next to them “Wow, he really does make music with his mouth for a living!”

Yeah. My old English teacher would be there and he shouts “I was wrong when I said you cant make a career out of messing around!”

There would also be a robot with like 10 arms and every arm pours out a different flavour milk shake and the Robots name is Happy Mouth and it fills everyone’s cup with their favourite milk shake, it also has dairy free options.

Ultimately, a room full of people up for a good time and who embrace the silliness.
