Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hello! My name is Kalle Lehto. I’m a circus artist and one of the founders and artistic directors of Race Horse Company from Finland.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

Chevalier in French means ‘horseman’, even though it is equivalent to ‘knight’ in English. So, my character is a horseman but because I’m allergic to horses, I use hobbyhorses in my circus instead of real ones!

Tell us all about your show!

It is a comedic solo circus for the whole family to enjoy. There are different kinds of acrobatics, juggling and physical theatre performed with a cast of hobbyhorses.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Haven’t had time to check what’s going on just yet, but I’m mostly into circus, comedy, family shows and I will of course go to see all my friends who are performing!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

We performed a show called Super Sunday in the Underbelly Circus Hub 2019. Key advice would be to love what you do, because if you don’t like it, it will be a very stressful month!

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

I don’t usually speak onstage but I might do some horse sounds!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Well, this year I presume that I will be walking to the venue after breakfast for setup and be ready to perform at 12.

After performing its lunchtime and maybe some promos, but after that I will see so many performances so that I can fill my need to see anything before next year, and then go happily to sleep!

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

I think living in the moment is a good way.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Meeting so many lovely people new and old.

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

Setting up and removing stuff from stage so quickly when your performance needs lot of props.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Smartphone, good shoes and an umbrella.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Be interested in the people you are trying to flyer to in order to find the ones who would really like your show. Otherwise, it’s just more paper in the bin!

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Whoever really wants to be there so we can enjoy the show together!

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

Instagram & facebook @racehorsecompany

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Horses love people
