Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi! We’re Valen Shore and Alison Zatta of Pacey’s Creek. Valen is a musician and writer whose songs have been featured on Riverdale, The Vampire Diaries, Lucifer, Pretty Little Liars, and The Sims 4; and Alison is an award-winning writer, actor, and filmmaker. We both grew up in the US but met while living in Edinburgh nearly 15 years ago when Alison answered Valen’s Gumtree advertisement looking for a flatmate. We’ve been writing together ever since.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the Fringe?
About 10 years ago we thought something like, “wouldn’t it be funny if Chris Kirkpatrick from *NSYNC had a Christmas musical about him called Chriskirkpatrickmas?” We decided it would.
Tell us all about your show!
Chriskirkpatrickmas is an original musical comedy inspired by Chris Kirkpatrick from *NSYNC. Our story begins on Christmas Eve 2009, 7 years after *NSYNC went on their infamous “hiatus”, when Chris is given the chance to make a wish that could change his life forever. It’s full of boy bands, holiday magic, and a ton of 90s nostalgia.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the Fringe?
So many! Some of our most anticipated are Hello Kitty Must Die, Public – The Musical, and Chloe Radcliffe: Cheat.
Have you done the Fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the Fringe.
We’ve attended the Fringe as audience members before, but this is our first time going as producers and performers. We’ve been told it’s impossible to fully prepare for the experience so we’re just planning to stay present – and hydrated.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the Fringe?
With lots of entertainment, friends new and old, and trips to the local pub.
Best thing about performing at the Fringe?
Being back in a city we love, surrounded by so much creative energy. We’re excited to share Chriskirkpatrickmas with new audiences, showcase everything we’ve done so far, and develop the show further.
The most challenging thing about performing at the Fringe?
Quick costume changes! Two of our cast members have 10 changes in 60 minutes
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
We hope the secret is being dressed up as *NSYNC.
If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?
