Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi. I’m Sasha. I’m a Leo but I don’t think that means anything. I have a sister 20 years younger than me, same parents, no children in between. My parents held out hope for 20 years, until I went to drama school and decided to start again. Sometimes people pay me to play Dungeons and Dragons with them, which is kinda fun.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the Fringe?
I was really torn between When Life Gives You Ellens and Brimful of Sasha, but not one under the age of 30 knew what Brimful of Sasha meant.
Tell us all about your show!
I guess, technically, you’d call When Life Gives You Ellens a break-up stand-up show but, in truth, the show isn’t actually about the break up. It’s about all the fun stages you go through after a break up: finding somewhere to live, trying to order a human being online like a pizza, going to the murdery houses of strangers from the internet, etc. You know, the coconuts stuff we are meant to be weirdly cool with for no reason.
Character Building Experience is a joyful, quirky show that’s kinda like Dungeons and Dragons, but super simple version played for laughs. It’s pretty much comedians playing silly characters going on an adventure, occasionally making some questionable choices… constantly making questionable choices.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
Pace yourself, get some sleep, occasionally eat a vegetable. All the usual stuff. It’s a long month and it’s super easy to burn out. The FOMO at the Fringe is intense but if you try to do everything you’ll enter the third week forgetting where you live and what your name is, which will be embarrassing because it’s on your flyer.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Rain coat, sturdy backpack and a steam inhaler. Your voice will give out at some point and those things are magical.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Jason Mamoa. I think he’d appreciate an anecdote I have about him. Also, he seems fun.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@sashakellen on Twitter.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
For funzies, maybe?
