Podcast Episodes That Changed My Life – Booze Cruise

I have always been a huge fan of podcasts, I have listened to podcasts as far back at 2008 I think it was although I never really listened to them until a few years later. My first real introduction to the world of podcasts was when I was in my last year of university and had to spend hours in the classroom with two of my friends working on our coursework into the very early hours of the morning. It would just be the three of us, myself, Matt and Tom and whilst we were working, the podcasts of The Ricky Gervais show was blasting out into the room. It was in the moment I realised that podcasts can create so much comedy and can really sort of act like a ‘best friend.’ It also sort of created a special bonding moment between the three of us and I am still very much close friends with them today.

Over the years, I have learnt that podcasts can really be so much more then the ‘laugh’ and whilst I do listen to a lot of podcasts to help get me through the tough days, the good days and the times I have to work through the night, I also have found that it can be so much more.

Over the years, the idea of what a podcast is has obviously developed, especially with the pandemic and so many more have arisen and so much more content is now available and in a saturated market it can be hard to find really good shows. I have learnt that sometimes episodes of certain podcasts can really have an effect and over time I have shown my appreciation for these episodes on my social media channels.

I have previously spoken about the podcast episode that inspired me to start writing this feature, and you can read more about it here. This week we are talking about a podcast that I found incredible refreshing to listen to when it comes to relationships.

Podcast Episodes That Changed My Life
Episode: Booze Cruise w/ Greg Daniels
Podcast: Office Ladies

As soon as I saw the American Office, I became an instant fan. I had watched the original British version as I like Ricky Gervais but I could not say that it was a show that I wanted to watch over and over again. When I watched The Office (US) it had not completely ended but when it was available on streaming platforms it became a show that I would watch a lot as I love some of the storylines and I really like Michael Scott. So when I heard in late 2019 that there was going to be a podcast about the show, I knew that I had to listen to it.

“…it is one of those shows that has helped me through a lot of tough times. When the pandemic hit and we were all thrown into lockdown situations, media such as podcasts became something that really helped me through…”

I would say that I was one of the very first sets of fans to listen to it – as soon as Office Ladies was available, I was there listening to it religiously every week. It was a great podcast and I am sure it was one of the first of it’s kind where they go into depth about each episode of the show in depth each week. The friendship between Jenna and Angela (who were both actresses in the show) are best friends in real life so it is really fun to listen to. I automatically really liked the podcast right from the start, however there is always one episode that you end up really liking that sort of makes you realise that this is the perfect show for you.

One of my favourite episodes of Season 2 is the episode Booze Cruise – I think this is one of the first episodes where I started to become a huge fan of Michael Scott and I think it was because of the section in the show where he starts awkwardly dancing – it is one of the funniest moments. I think that is why I was so excited to listen to the podcast episode about Booze Cruise because I wanted to know all about it. The thing that made it even more magical was that it was the first episode to feature the creator Greg Daniels.

I never thought that a podcast featuring the creator of a show could be so much fun and really insightful but it really was and it gave me so much information that I did not know about the episode before. The great thing about this show is that it also has a lot of content that can make you laugh out loud and feel like you are in the room with the girls as they really make it a warm and exciting environment.

I wanted to include this podcast in this article because it is one of those shows that has helped me through a lot of tough times. When the pandemic hit and we were all thrown into lockdown situations, media such as podcasts became something that really helped me through and I would say that this is a show that created a lot of laughs for me during this very tough time. All those days when I had to work at home, all those times when I had to go into the office in incredibly bizarre situations (working in television you were able to go in at some points for necessary shows such as news and it was so weird). It was something that made me smile in very tough times.

‘lady’ (her real name is Bramble)

It is a show that even now slightly scatters into my personal life, from very early on, I got into a habit of calling one of my rabbits ‘Lady’ a lot which is definitely an American terminology as I had never really heard it until I listened to this podcast. Now it is a terminology I end up using a lot when my bunny is being mischievous and thinks she is getting away with it.

I feel that this podcast has been an amazing thing for the television show and there are some fantastic episodes and some amazing guest stars that appear that make it even better experience along the way. I also think it is one of the leaders in podcasts that break down episodes and out of a lot that I have listened to, I still feel it is leading the way.
