The Travel Book – Travel Through A Photo – Lake Bled, Slovenia

There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to a new feature that will appear regularly this year in the travel section. Today we are going to kick things off by looking at one of my favourite photos.

It was April in 2015 and I had been invited to Slovenia to meet my dear friend that I had not seen in a very long time. i met them one summer when I was working with them and we had kept in contact very regularly and she invited me out to her home country to explore what there was to see.

The best thing about going to a country with someone who lives there is that you get to see a whole different side of the place that you would not necessarily see if you were a tourist. I was only there for 5 days but in that time, I experienced a lot of the country, culture and food and fell in love with it. In that time I even went to a Slovenian wedding where I was the only English person and even though I did not know the couple it is one of my favourite memories that I love to this day.

I really like this photograph as I like the depth that I have been able to get with the pillar at the front and it gives the photo a really interesting angle to look at Lake Bled. The day that we visited, it was the first day I was in the country and it was really quiet as it was out of season and it was the middle of the week and I think it was the best time to see the location as it meant you could enjoy it in all of it’s beauty.

I loved going to Lake Bled and I cannot wait to visit it again in the future as it was one of the most prettiest places I have been to.
