Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Plastic Barricades

Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

“Lucid in the fall” with “Tallest Trees” as a b-side were released on the 18th of November. “Lucid” is a  song about consumerism and about how we are lucid about our habits but we still keep falling  into the same rabbit hole of mindless spending. “Tallest Trees” watch us from a distance,  puzzled by our self-destructive tendencies. Both songs will come with weird and trippy music  videos created with the help of the latest AI text-to-image algorithms.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

This feels like forever ago now, but our first ever release under the Plastic Barricades moniker  happened in 2008 when we dropped our first single “London walk”/”Heavy World”. We were  heavily into Oasis, Blur and Coldplay at that point, so that definitely came through in those early  songs. You can still hear them on our official website – just don’t judge too hard please

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

It is always hard to pick a favourite song that you’ve written, because they all describe different  periods of my life. I like to think that my favourite song is the one I will write next. But if I had to  choose one out of the currently released two studio albums, I would say it is “Weightless” featured on our second album “Self-Theories”. Everything I love about writing music came together in that one – the poetry of the lyrics, the ambience of the synths and the spaciousness  of guitars.

Your favourite song to play live:

All of the heavy and fast ones are always fun to play, so mostly the first album “Mechanics of  Life” tracks then

Your most emotional track:

“The Great Unknown” is definitely one of those, as well as “Shine!” and “Half of your Soul”.  These are all hopeful love songs, so I always feel emotional when singing them.

The best lyric you have ever written:

“We are reflections in the water, we will only exist until it gets dark” – from “Weightless”

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

A very powerful cocktail of adrenalin, over-the-top excitement, slight anxiety about the technical  details and a lot of love for everyone who came to see us play. It is a magical moment and I will  always cherish every single gigs we’ve ever played.

The hardest track to play live:

Any song that has a lot of quiet parts – dynamics are tricky to get right on a loud and noisy  stage, unless the monitoring situation is spot on.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Some sort of nasal spray in case I get a cold, and most definitely a Kindle book and a  meditation app on my phone.

Describe your fans in three words:

Thoughtful, hopeful optimists

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

“I will follow you into the dark” by Death Cab for Cutie. What a poignant song!

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

First singles “Lucid in the fall”/”Tallest Trees” are already available, new album “We  Stayed Indoors” out in 2023. Expect more weird music videos, big and beautiful gigs and many  more live streams in 2023!
