Hello! Tell us about shaw2020 theatre company?
SHAW2020 was founded by actor-members of The Shaw Society, their mission to bring the work of Shaw and his contemporaries to a wider more diverse audience. The name was inspired by Bernard Shaw’s works coming out of copyright at the end of 2020.
Tell us a little bit about your style of show?
This hour-long play is a charming two-hander in which the characters, simply named ‘A’ and ‘Z’, play a relentless game of cat and mouse across land and sea.
The characters, a distinguished author and a small-time shopkeeper respectively, meet in the luxurious surroundings of a round-the-world cruise. She has the recipe for a holiday romance, but he is writing to a deadline. Separated by sex, class and wealth, there could hardly be two more unlikely travelling companions. Bernard Shaw’s intimate tale pits these two lively minds against each other with very unexpected results.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
As we are on tour until we visit the Camden Fringe we can only see shows toward the end of the festval. We are keen to see, Lautrec and Tolstoy Tried to Kill My Girlfriend , but there are so many great shows to choose from.
What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?
Do It!! It is a great platform, with fantastic venues and wonderful support from the Camden Fringe team
What are your favourite things about London?
Arts and culture, diversity and history
What are your three favourite things about Camden?
The vibrancy, the markets, the canals and of course the Fringe!
Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?
From our Shaw Village Wooing- ” I am a woman and you are a man, with a slight difference that doesn’ matter except on special occasions” funny because it is spoken by the male character.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Sir Ian Mckellen- he hasn’t seen our work but said when we asked him-
“My heart always lifts when I’m off to see a Shaw play. A company of Shaw actors who know what they are doing and saying is marvellous.”
The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?
Fred- he looks like he is about to perform in Top Hat
