Welcome to a feature that will be published every other week. I go to a lot of gigs and there are always little stories that come out of them that I always want to tell someone so what better place to do it!
How Live Music Interviewing McFly Before The Show…
When I was at University, I was one of the writers of the magazine, I used to write articles mainly about music. Whether it was album reviews, or interviewing bands, I was always obsessed with anything to do with the topic. One day I got an email asking who out of the team would like to interview McFly, I knew that this was something pretty special and would go like hot cakes so replied straight away and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to interview them.
I was incredibly nervous as it was the first time I was going to interview a huge pop band. I spent ages writing, then re-writing them and then wondering if the questions were even good enough! When I got to the venue I realised I was sharing the interview time with another university which made it feel a bit – well – awkward. I was already nervous and then having two people from this other university felt like pressure.
The interview went OK, I wouldn’t say it was the best one I have ever done but it was ok. I recorded it all on Dictaphone so I could listen to it and transcribe it. I think I actually still have this interview recorded somewhere to this day!
The band was friendly but you could tell they were looking forward to performing more then doing an interview. With the interview came free tickets to the gig so even got to see them perform which was good fun. It was something that was exciting because I had heard a lot about how well they could perform live.
The gig itself was really good and it was around the release of their fourth album I think so there was a lot of new songs in the mix as well. It was full of high energy and lots of fun. My photos of the gig as you can tell were taken on a rubbish camera but at least I got a good photo with the band before!
